Knollwood Golf Club - New
About
There are two courses at the Knollwood Golf Club, the New and the Old. The New Course, which is adjacent to the Old, was built almost 20 years after the original. It is the trickier layout of the two. Although the scenic landscape was already dotted with trees, thousands more were planted to create a more challenging golf course and to enhance the beautiful terrain. The layout features plenty of elevation changes throughout and there are elevated tees where golfers can take in pleasant views. The architect of the New Course, Jack Harris, employed his memories of the most interesting holes he had played around the world to recreate some of them on this course.

The course was sub-par on May 2nd
Some portions of the front nine were in bad condition ie: flooded, muddy, and unputtable greens. There was not one single ball washer on any of the holes. Very frustrating having to constantly change golf balls because of all the mud and nowhere to clean them. I don't understand why the course would be open and charging full rate for these conditions.
Going Downhill
I have been playing these courses off an on for close to 30 years , in the last few years the new course has been in steady decline. The clubhouse staff is rude and last time I went I was booked with Golf Now and when I went to check in I was told that there was no tee time booked for me and that I would have to take it up with Golf Now. After looking at his computer monitor I noticed he was looking at the wrong date, he couldn't have cared less.
The course seems to me like it is trying to portray itself as a high end country club. Wake up there is nothing special about this golf course . Years ago it was in great shape and had a very friendly staff.Keep it up and I certainly won't be returning , there are alot of better courses out there and let's face it we are the ones that support your golf course.
Good course, for a great price
The course was in pretty good shape and I was happy with the money we paid. A few challenging holes, but many of them from the blues were short. If it was a litlte longer, it would have been even better.
This course has same flag colour for all greens - new course
Greens very undulating and fast. Could use more yardage markers and coloured flags to let golfers know where placements are.
Save your money...it's Overrun....
It seems this course has taken a turn for the worse...I have played both the old course and new course over 20 times each.
This is specifically about the New Course....
It used to be a great day of golf...now it's overrun by non complying golfers, with no etiquette and absolutely no conscious aware of anyone but themselves...not to mention the greens are covered in leaves and acorns...the tee boxes are hacked...and the overall experience is not enjoyable...take a helmet...golf balls land over your head constantly...even after repeated warnings...no respect.
It's goodbye Knollwood...you won't be missed....
Needs some serious help.
This course has lots of blind shots
If you haven't play this course before you wouldn't have a clue on where to place your tee shots. I played with my wife and a positive was the tee placements made it more enjoyable for her to have a chance to get on the green it two. The starter was rude the greens were sub par there were no bunkers and the numerous blind shots I didn't like. The pace of play was over 5 hours and no marshalls to help speed things up. There were a few nice holes on this course some real challenges so not all bad
After reading your review I am confused. 3 stars? Not recommended?
A scenic golf course with some very well laid out and challening holes.
While most of the tee boxes were not very well maintained the fairways were in contrast in great shape. Even without bunkers, most of the holes were challenging enough with the green design, elevated and a little gully added to the front on just about every one. Two par threes with water in front were very good tests. My partner and I had a great time. We are certainly making plans to come back for another enjoyable round.
Wow! You are not serious? This course has a considerable way to go to achieve 5 star status, even if compared only to local courses. The layout is lazy and uninspired. Several holes are poorly designed and gimmicky. The lack of hazards only compounds the obvious. The staff are below average in the way they greet patrons. The conditions of fairways/greens are worth the "Hot deal"price of $16. Never, ever pay more for this mistake. Other superior course for the same price range.
Average Course
Overall a decent experience with two caveats.
-When playing Blue Tees some Tee boxes are to close to previous green and thus present a hazard from poorly struck shots from the group behind.
-Tee boxes need much better maintenance.
Staff was friendly and course layout is interesting. Overall an average course that gets a 3 out of 5 rating
A course with some nice holes.
Played late (about 3 times) in the the season, some of the tee boxes & greens were starting to look very tired & wore! Maybe do to the fact of the of the high traffic of golfers ever time I played! Still a nice little track.
Where are these nice holes? Not on this track.... The local "muni" courses are in better shape/design and have higher flow of patrons. This course is a joke. Try Kings Forest, Willow Valley, or either Chedoke courses and then revisit your review of this track.
needs work
Too much money for this course. Staff is not friendly and greens are in horrible shape. The Owner decided to spend money on himself and staff by building a new clubhouse a few years ago. The course could have really used the money (More Mauntenance, more bunkers, better fairways etc. Mystic is $50 with a cart in the fall; much better value.
Mystic, Copetown Woods, and flamborough Hills, Willow Valley are all close in proximity and $ to this awful course. All of them are superior in every respect. I played this course for a hot deal($30/cart) and felt I paid too much. Not at all like advertised! No reason to waste time/money on this course. Better valued courses in the area. PEOPLE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Knollwood golf & country club.
Challinging course great value for the money well worth the 80k drive. This course is in my top ten.
WOW! I read this review and one question came to mind. What are the remaining 9 courses in this golfers top 10? If you feel you received good value for your $ and time playing there I am saddened for you.
This course falls under the category "You get what you pay for"
Have played both courses. Payed Less then $20/cart. Staff are down right unfriendly. Had played the course previously. The course was not in good condition or well maintained. Greens were unkept and in need of repair and seeding. Course lacks a challenging layout. Lacks any semblance of a "wow" hole. A couple of holes are gimmicky to the point of laughable. Would play this course again only if it was "Free". A course fit for persons new to the sport. Avoid this uninspired track of holes and go to Willow Valley or Copetown Woods. The area offers a abundance of good golf courses to fit every taste and competence.
Horrible
Where to start. This course is very short, and even from the back tees driver cannot be used on most par 4's. The greens are in absolutely terrible conditions, it is basically like putting on bumpy fairways. The fairways themselves are patchy and bare. It appears like money is not being invested back into the course, but instead to things like the clubhouse and cartpaths. Couldn't pay me to play this course again.
You are right in your assessment. Very disappointing golf course in all respects.
I agree with your assessment of this tandem of courses. Resting on their laurels! Too bad.. What could have been.
