Knollwood Golf Club - New
About
There are two courses at the Knollwood Golf Club, the New and the Old. The New Course, which is adjacent to the Old, was built almost 20 years after the original. It is the trickier layout of the two. Although the scenic landscape was already dotted with trees, thousands more were planted to create a more challenging golf course and to enhance the beautiful terrain. The layout features plenty of elevation changes throughout and there are elevated tees where golfers can take in pleasant views. The architect of the New Course, Jack Harris, employed his memories of the most interesting holes he had played around the world to recreate some of them on this course.

Please water your golf course.
What used to be a staple golf course for the Ancaster area is now a bit of a joke. Knollwood New used to be a more challenging alternative to the shorter Old course but after having played them both this season, there really is no reason to choose New over Old.
That is, unless you like putting on destroyed greens, using irons on dry and dead fairways, or teeing off on dirt tee boxes.
It's a shame this course has taken such a beating whereas the Old course, in some cases not more than fifteen feet away from the New course, looks green and lush.
Pace of play is an issue at the New course as well. Marshals are occasionally present but god forbid they actually try to speed up pace of play. One foursome backed up four groups behind them.
Course is in a nice quiet setting with lots of wooded areas and rolling hills.
Overall it was a very pleasant experience to play here. A little challenging for the first time because of quite a few blind tee shots. Second time around it would be easier to place tee shots but would still be very interesting to play.
This course needs work.
The conditions have gone down over the years. Tee blocks need attention. Fairways and greens are dry and hard. Grass clippings everywhere. Pace of play was good. Not overcrowded.
Lots of mature trees, makes for a very scenic course..
First time golfed at Knollwood, so not familiar with the course. Would have been lost had not my golfing partner golfed there before. Course really needs some direction signs to help new golfers.
Also score card needs pictures to indicate how 18 holes are shaped, etc.
Course needs some maintenance, as some greens were littered with leaves, etc.
I might recommend this course but not too strongly, and with some reservations.
tee boxes
Generally a good course. There are no sand traps. Tee boxes are generally in poor condition. Overall, course is fun to play and in good condition except for tee boxes and 4th green. There are some downed trees which should be attended to.
Great Value for the Average Golfer
Excellent value for the money. We had a relaxing, enjoyable round. No snooty, overly serious golfers pushing your round.
Challenging when you don't know the course
Score cards don't have the course layout on them. Makes it more challenging than the course should be as you are shooting blind on many holes. Will be better round next time as I know the course
It's golf.
The greens need some attention. There are several trees that were damaged in a storm about three weeks ago that have not been cleaned up. The fairways were quite lush and wide. The scorecard did not include any kind of map that would help a first-timer get around more easily.
This course has some challenging holes.
Enjoyed playing this golf course again. The ninth and eighteenth holes are quite challenging. Water on the 9th. and 18th plus an undulating green on the 18th. Will definitely play this course again!
I will definetely come back to Knollwood (new course)!
The course is in good shape. I am a varage player so this course fits me perfectly since the fairways are wide and the greens are big enough. Our foursome had lots of fun in this course.
A short but still challenging course in nice shape
We played this course the day after the storms came through and were surprised it wasn't closed. To our delight, it was quite playable with nicely mown fairways and interesting elevation changes.
The staff monitored the damage on the course (lots of limbs and trees down), maintaining friendliness and patience with the players.
I don't believe this course has an official rating and would like to see this done as I can't enter my great score for handicap purposes.
Poor course
Some greens had small divots as well as really hard ground in the tee boxes. Have to hammer the tee into the ground with a club it's so hard.
peaceful
A beautiful rolling hill terrain in a most peaceful setting. Despite intense heat, tree shaded terrain in this quiet setting made for an uncrowded, quiet and enjoyable round :)
Knollwood? Knoll-Ever again
When me and my friends booked this course using a promo code we figured we got a great deal at the New Course for $40 including cart. However upon arriving at the course it was apparent why tee times are so available. This course is in horrendous conditions run by amateurs. When we arrived the started informed us we could go right away even though we like to show up 45 mins to an hour earlier to work on putting. This is fine however we indicated to him we would like to go a little closer to our tee time. The greens and fairways were in atrocious conditions. Our saving point or so we thought was the lunch time where we could sit down and enjoy a nice lunch however we were met with a comment that can't sit down and eat and that we'd have to take it to do due to losing our spots. We quickly gathered and finished our round but everything from the tees (need major repair work) , to the horrendous fairways and green conditions to especially the service. The reason why I have rated it a moderately challenging course was due to the weeds on the fairway that grew that are so bad they could passed for fairway hazards. A low rate course with low rate service. I have golfed at many courses all around and this one definitely should not been merit the name golf course in its title. They should sell off the land and build condos or better yet hire competent staff that know what they're doing. Epic failure.
basic course
The New Knollwood is an average public course with enough difficulties to challenge you but friendly enough make you feel relaxed.
Recommended for a friendly round, but not quite up to the standard of business golf.
sn
Course is in good shape!
The course was in good shape. Getting around was challenging in a couple of spots. Better sigage needed as they do not have maps on score cards.
Need some work
A couple fairways were under construction, the greens were not the best, and a couple holes were a bit unfair.
Not good...
I've played Knollwood many times, it's never been the greatest course out there but you got value for what you payed for. This time around the course was in pretty rough shape starting with the first hole. Staff was nowhere to be found, the refreshment cart would not stop when youo were about to play and just talk to you while swinging. Greens and and tee's were so hard and not cleaned at all. Disapointing for a course that used to be pretty good...
