Knollwood Golf Club - New
About
There are two courses at the Knollwood Golf Club, the New and the Old. The New Course, which is adjacent to the Old, was built almost 20 years after the original. It is the trickier layout of the two. Although the scenic landscape was already dotted with trees, thousands more were planted to create a more challenging golf course and to enhance the beautiful terrain. The layout features plenty of elevation changes throughout and there are elevated tees where golfers can take in pleasant views. The architect of the New Course, Jack Harris, employed his memories of the most interesting holes he had played around the world to recreate some of them on this course.

The course was enjoyable to play.
On arriving, checkin was easy. The covid guidelines were followed closely by course staff. The carts had the plastic divider between the driver and passenger. This avoided the single rider cost for a cart. On teeing off we had to ask where the tee blocks were to which we were told that there weren't any tee blocks at all on the course. We had to use our GPS watches to find the proper tee distances stated on the signs. The tee blocks themselves were in need of maintenance. There were many divots, bare patches and were hard. The missing tee blocks and tee shape were not deal breakers. The greens were in great shape although noticeably slow. Several of the greens were very challenging with much contouring. The course layout made it enjoyable to play with a number of tight and challenging shots. The green fees were very affordable.. I'd play there again.
Cut the darn greens
Course is in decent shape. No tee markers for some unknown reason - like we are going to touch them! Da. The greens are in great shape but they need to be cut more often. Dead slow! And what's with the pin placements - Geez
Not bad
The greens were in rough shape and the pace of play was really slow. Don't think I'll play the new course again.
A sad day on the course
No markers on the tee boxes (was told that the lawn maintenance worker was too lazy to remove them when he mowed th tee bixes), the greens not properly mowed or rolled (balls were bouncing all around and unpredictable speed), tee boxes not welled maintained, scorecard yardage did not match signs on tee boxes (both were unreliable), power cart was not totally cleaned (by a young lad with a cigarette hanging from his lips) and this with a charge of $19 each for my wife and I, the Starter said we could partially remove the cart separation screen between us and then we were warned by a couple of riders in a cart with a red flag (course officials?) to replace the plastic screen....even when they did not have one in their cart! Will not play there again and do not recommend this course to anyone.
Ok but staff could have been more accommodating
Staff were pushy to get us to leave the course without playing the last hole. There was lots of sun light left. We were walking but they had to shut gate. Seems like they only get paid until a specific time. No Marshalls or beverage cart on the course.
Why weren’t there markers on the tee blocks. There was no differentiation from golds to reds.
Always play Knollwood at our first outing of the season.
We always choose Knollwood New for our first outing. It is familiar and forgiving. Prices are economical and easy to book. As the season continues, we will play Knollwood half a dozen times to see how we progress.
Surcharge for single cart riders!?
This is the only course I’ve seen out of dozens that is applying a surcharge($10 on top of cart fee) to customers that must ride alone because they don’t live with their playing partner. It costs between $1.15 and $1.50 to fuel a golf cart for an entire round( avg carts cost $0.23 /km). Electric carts cost between $0.20 and $0.28 to run per round. Increasing your profit margins( with regards to public golf rounds, obviously they are taking a hit on functions, but that has nothing to do with public players) during a pandemic is bad form whether it was intentional or just careless. Everyone is eating their fair share of s%!t during the current situation, you guys(Knollwood) should think about grabbing a fork. Most, if not all, public players coming out to support your club are on a reduced income currently. I won’t play here again unless that changes and neither should any of you!
1st time at this course
nice course, looking forward to coming back next year. Greens are challenging, smaller then usually, no bunkers but very contoured and a bit too long of grass. The fairway grass was cut too short, but in good condition and fairly open and forgiving. it looks like work is being done to enhance the course overall, very picturesque!
It's been better....
The course has been undergoing some changes via tree clearing and as such, there are areas around the fairways and greens that are unplayable. Greens were very rough this year and certainly not up to previous standards. I have played this course many times over the years and it has been in much better shape than it was this year. The price was not indicative of the calibre of the course's current condition, so I felt it was kind of overpriced and not a great value.
Only played this course once this year, in August, and don't know if it got any better. Will try again next year.
Tee Boxes need some help
While teeing off in some of the tee boxes, I felt I was standing at an angle. These could use some adjustments.
Cut the trees
Two of the stupidest hole designs I’ve ever seen (3, 16), other than that, decent course. Good value I suppose
