Knollwood Golf Club - Old
About
Knollwood Golf Club is home to two 18-hole courses, the Old and the New. The golf courses were built nearly 20 years apart. Opened in 1970, the Old Course is spread across beautiful parkland that is covered in trees. The layout is more traditional and less challenging than the other course at Knollwood Golf Club, but it is still an entertaining round. The main priority in creating the golf course was to not only maintain the natural features of the terrain, but also enhance it. Thousands of trees were planted in addition to those already present throughout the golf course. The result is a unique course that players of all skill levels will enjoy.

Knollwood Old Course
started nicely no hold ups really, a few slow ones that we played through. Got to the 10th and the water sprinkler system came on over the green while we were trying to put, got soaked, continued on the 11th, 12th, and 13th my wife said call it quit's soaked totally. The course super couldn't seem to get it shut off. Knollwood gave us a rain check for both of us.
No problems until the 10th, a very nice course will definitely play more there, hopefully the sprinkler system works properly next time.
Fast playing course
Course is short but playing the 'Blues' is better challenge.
Still only 5500 yds. but much more fun than the 'whites'.
The course is nice, in the fall, a bit too many fallen leafs. The only real issue for me was the course is a bit too short for my game. Too many par 3 holes, and very short par 4's, forced to wait on every hole. If you like short course, i would recommend this one.
Tricky Greens
Good day played in 3 hours course was in good shape for the fall, not much leaves on the course .
Enjoyable, relaxing
Went on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend with my brother and it was perfect weather for golf. First time at the course for both of us. There also were not a lot of golfers on the course so we could take our time and not feel rushed or held up. Tee off was 1:30 and in less than 4 hours we were done. Some water hazards but I don't recall any bunkers.
The only problem was the lack of hole layout map. The first green is visible so we never thought of looking for a map until we reached the fourth hole and did not know where the green was located There is none on the scorecard or at the tee markers. We just played it by ear and guessed where the hole was until after the ninth when the starter handed us a map. I liked this course and will go back.
hot day
Relatively short course. Some tricky greens made you work for par. Good variety of holes.
Nice short course
Interesting holes, good condition, fun short course . Eat somewhere else, not pleased with meal.
One of the worst courses in the Hamilton
Pros:
- staff is friendly
- the greens were in ok condition
- clubhouse is nice
Cons:
- absolutely the worst course layout I've ever played anywhere in the world
- half the holes have some sort of obstruction that punished perfect shots in the middle of the fairway
- half the holes have tee boxes that required you to go around a tree to hit the fairway.
- perfect example is hole 17 which literally has a large tree directly between the tee box and green. Some of the higher handicappers on our foursome who had low ball flights could not hit it over the tree.
- it's almost like someone who had no idea how to play golf designed the course and decided to put trees blocking the tee box and greens to make up for the lack of length on the course
- tee boxes were in poor condition
- pace of play is poor since the course is tight and even average golfers will spend a lot of time in the woods or scooting under trees
- there is no driving range
I really like the wide fairways and lived the layout. Lots of nature. Holes were challenging but not overwhelming.
The greens were in poor condition and no advisory were posted
Challenging
Even though the course is not long it is challenging. Play smart and you will have a good round.
A good course for senior's and beginners. Too short for serious golfers.
Short and sweet
Whilst not the longest course it does still offer some good challenges especially from blue tees. A great place to hone your short game skills. Staff were brilliant and friendly.
Back 9 was a bit slow but manageable. Lovely greens.
