Knollwood Golf Club - Old
About
Knollwood Golf Club is home to two 18-hole courses, the Old and the New. The golf courses were built nearly 20 years apart. Opened in 1970, the Old Course is spread across beautiful parkland that is covered in trees. The layout is more traditional and less challenging than the other course at Knollwood Golf Club, but it is still an entertaining round. The main priority in creating the golf course was to not only maintain the natural features of the terrain, but also enhance it. Thousands of trees were planted in addition to those already present throughout the golf course. The result is a unique course that players of all skill levels will enjoy.

pleasant staff, challenging greens
the old course has improved with age, it had been several years since i played there and my wife was very pleased with the course
Wonderful outing
We finished our round in less than 3 hours. What a wonderful change from all the other courses we have played the past couple of years.
If you rates were lower we would play more often. We are both retired and always looking for reduced rates.
The course is beautiful - the conditions and the nature around it.
The staff was friendly, attentive, professional, the best one could ever expect in a business setting.
Thank you for a terrific outing.
Good value, relatively easy playing conditions.......
Fairly easy course to play, even from the "tips". Course was in good shape except for the tee boxes. Somewhat confusing to get around between holes--need a few more signs. There is no course map on the scorecard.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend for fun round of golf with friends without too much concern with course difficulty
some nice difficult holes well protected....not a long hitters course
Was dissappointed and find that if you get a fire deal its ok....otherwise the deals they have are still a bit pricey for what the course has to offer in comparison to other nearby courses. Nearly every green had brown dead spots....cart paths are rough and the tee blocks were the worst I've seen in some time. Bare, unlevel and busted tees everywhere. Perhaps the new one is better?
Greens need attention
The greens need some serious attention. They need to be rolled and in some areas replaced. Also should be cut a little shorter.
That said this is a nice short course to bring your junior golfer. The starter was very good with giving course tips. Overall would be a great place if they just fixed up the greens.
no marshall or manager on course
would not recommend this course to golfers who actually play a game of golf. There was no marshal to correct slow play, and the Sunday afternoon crowd was out for the day. A slow over 5 hour round, waiting on every T.
A little Gem
Very Beautiful course, mature trees and was well maintained. Gardens all around. An easy course to walk. Service was impeccable. Beverage cart service was Fantastic, came by often. Fairways were in great shape as we're the greens. A course for all levels to enjoy. A little draw back (or not) no sand traps on this course. Club house food and surroundings a big yes to eat here! Really enjoyed it.
Nice course - pin placement - good degree of difficulty
One of my favourite courses. Can play it in 3 hrs. Super friendly staff!
This course is fun and fast. it lets you uses most of the clubs in your bag
This is a fun course as you can really get close to the greens with a decent drive. The greens are challenging and they make up for the shorter holes so don't expect super low scores unless you are a wizard with the putter
Nice short course
A little short, but played from blues, about 5500 yards
nicely conditioned, good views,
Challenging Layout
The 'old course' at Knollwood is interesting and holds a number of challenges for the average golfer. The staff were quite friendly and there was no sense of 'push' which is always a pleasant surprise. Although we played on a day after a rather violent storm, the maintenance staff had done an admirable job is keeping the fairways open. Our only complaint was the lack of signage including hole layouts. We enjoy a good mystery but not when golfing. Aside from this, most of the clubs in one's bag were called forth to do service. A good course at a reasonable price.
Nice course, fast greens
We had a nice round here - the course is well-maintained. There were 4 tournaments that day but we didn't feel the wait until the back nine. Would play again.
Nice setting. Greens and tee blocks could use attention.
The course is set on a nice piece of rolling land providing each hole with its own set of challenges. The greens themselves are full of undulating curves and elevation changes that makes even shot putts difficult. The lack of fairway markers makes playing by feel important. The tee blocks and greens could use some attention as there are many ball marks unrepaired and tee blocks lacking grass. If the course shows a high expectation it would easier to uphold and maintain and the players would more Likely repair their own marks and divots.
Great bang for your buck
Shorter holes allow every club in your bag to be used. Good conditions and good value! Sunday evenings offer great patio entertainment as well.
Decent but not great and I definately prefer the New Course
Alot of the greens like the New course were not in very good shape they really need to address this issue. The old course is easier then the New Course and it is quite short with several very short Par 4's, 5's and a Par 3 that said it was 98 yards and from where the tees were place was no longer then 60ish yards. I dont like Par 3's where you cant hit some sort of 3/4 or full shot its just way to short.
Bring a dinghy
The course has potential to be a decent compact course. Being set in the woods lends itself to a feeling of being surrounded by nature. BUT.....the entire course is water logged. Seeing how there are no bunkers on the course it is presumably a year round issue. Puddles on tee boxes. Standing water in the fairways so deep unless you have a 50' ball retriever you have to abandon your ball. Greens are very rough and uneven. No/sparse grass on many tee boxes. Staff are very friendly. Being a hot deal for $36 incl cart is the only value in the course. With cart path rule it made more sense to walk.
Their slick website gives a sense of a higher end facility. Although the clubhouse is very cool we never ate there to be able to attest to the quality of the food.
o.k. but needs work on greens
always liked Knollwood course but needs help on green bad shape patches
Interesting design!!
I quite enjoyed playing the Old Course at Knollwood.
It is a very deceiving layout, short holes that look drivable.
But there is no sticking anything on these greens :) you must have every thing hit short and role up. The problem w/ that is the fairways are just as fast as the greens. Plus I don't think I found a flat portion on these greens. Multiple breaks. Saying all that I shot a 80 from the blues. So I can't complain. :)
I really enjoyed the challenges this course design brought.
Great course
This was my first time at Knollwood, the course is fantastic. Fun to play and greens were maintained.
