Much better than last week
The greens were punched last time I played and were pretty bumpy, so I was happy to see a big improvement this week. Enjoyed a very nice breakfast before the round and another beautiful summer afternoon on the course.
I didn’t play as well as last week, but the company of three great playing partners made for an enjoyable day. The only downside was the pace of play — 4½ hours.
The foursome ahead of us was frustrating to watch. They weren’t playing ready golf and seemed to be driving their carts everywhere — getting too close to greens and not staying on the cart paths on par 3s.
Even with the slow round, it was still a pleasurable day of golf, good company and beautiful summer weather. Sometimes you just have to enjoy the day!
Greens were bumpy
Everything was perfect except the greens were punched and very bumpy. Every hole. Putts were impossible because they didn’t roll true.
Aerated Greens
They had punch the greens days earlier but the balls rolled terrible. Very bumpy. Not one green had smooth rolling greens. Frustrating to watch your putt hit a bump and roll off line.
Pace of play
Pace of play was absolutely horrible we where waiting 20 minutes just to tee off at each hole
Cool Summer Day
Beautiful cool summer day to play golf. Ideal conditions. Staff super friendly and accommodating. Pace of play was pretty good. Finished in 4 hours 5 minutes. Greens were inconsistent. Some were very slow and others were faster. Pin placement was extremely difficult. Overall, there was really nothing to complain about. It was a great day.
They also had a demo tent set up for trying different manufacturers and PXG fitting. I went after my round and checked them out. I was a little bit tired so I didn’t hit many and got some good advice from PXG.
Thanks Royal Ashburn for a great start to a long weekend.
Lots of wear and tear on the course
Staff are always friendly here. No matter where you are they are terrific. Pro Shop, cart pick up, starter, etc were all great.
Tee off was for 1:30 pm but somehow everything got screwed up between the starter and pro shop. A group from a wedding booking were late and held things up. Not sure why they didn’t send out the ones that were there and made the others join up when they arrived. Anyhow, unfortunately we wound up behind them and they wound up leaving a hole and a half empty. By the time a marshal showed up we had only 3 more holes left to play.
It has been an unusually hot and humid season. This course gets lots of tournament play. And it shows. The tee boxes are in rough shape. The fairways are in rough shape. Bunkers were never raked. My fault. I shouldn’t hit it into them. And it seems none of the other golfers will fix marks on the green. Every green our group fixed at least 10, on one green we fixed over 20. It was that bad.
We saw the beverage cart at least twice every nine holes. Which was very appreciated.
The restaurant was well run, again very friendly and attentive. Food was good.
Maybe will come back in the fall when the course can recover.
Beautiful November Golf Day
Could not have asked for better weather in November. The service and friendliness of the staff was great.
The course was in very good condition for near winter. Bunkers were inconsistent but not unexpected.
Overall it was a top notch day of golf.
Golfing
Awesome staff very friendly. Course was in great shape price was really good for 100. Would play there again for sure.
Unbelievable
Booked and paid as a single tee time @ 1:30pm everyone in my group teed off and the started stopped me to asked if I had paid for single cart privileges???? Already paid they wanted to charge me another transaction?!?! Never going to the royal Assburn ever again.
