Bang for your buck
Nice little course. They have good deals. Quite country course, nothing fancy grerat for average golfers.
Friendly Staff, Good Value
Course was in very good condition. The wide rolling fairways make for a very pleasant round, not overly challenging. Often rounds can be played in 3.5 hours. Staff are always friendly and attentive.
Nice round
Great bargain and for the price, a nice course to play. Does not have the best drainage so you are best to play there when it has not rained for a few days. Very helpful staff, cannot do enough for you.
this course can be challenging
a good relaxing round ,with some challenges, scenery, clubhouse and friendly staff..........recommend to friends and play more frequently
Nice challenging course.
I've played Simoro several times and always enjoy the course. Management carefully monitors pace of play and doesn't overbook causing backups.
value for the money
was here at noon on a Friday and was off by myself and then caught up with another single, staff were great, got me out before a foursome started, no problem with golf now, didn't have to read it over ten times , just game me the key and said have a good round! lot of shorter holes, great course for someone just starting out or a regular player, everyone very friendly! THANKS!!
Great price
Excellent tee time, 1:52, good value and good pace
Great bang for your buck.
This is a great course for its value. Very inexpensive and always is good shape. Nobody behind us to rush our rate of play.
typical public course pace of play
I did get a great same day singles rate for 18 with a cart. However the first 9 took 2hrs 50 min on a fairly short course. So painfully slow that I left after 9 holes. The staff was very friendly but they have to get a course marshall to maintain the pace of play
Good time
Was a beautiful day, couse was a little soggy in sports from the previous days' rain. Friendly staff, nice greens.
Nice course
The course seemed well maintained. However, due to the amount of rain in the past few days there was a lot of casual water in play. A discount would have been nice, or a least a warning. Overall, I would definitely return!
Surprising Simoro
I had heard good things about Simoro from some golfers at a local driving range but read some just so so reviews here on Golfnow so waited for a " Hotdeal " to play .
The course is quite easy to find - a couple of kms off the 400 just north of Barrie - but feels like it is in the country . When you arrive , the club house and property are what you would expect for an older country course but it has everything you need right at hand .
The restaurant , proshop , carts , etc - even the range - are close to the parking lot . The course itself was also quite easy to navigate so no site map required like some places .
The staff was friendly and helpful and had me set up and off to the range quickly .
They also paired me up with a regular for my round so i had the inside info all day . This is one thing that i suggest you ask for if it's your first time at Simoro as there are some spots where local knowledge helped big time .
If you do end up playing without a local guide , pay attention to the yardage markers as they lead you towards the greens on the doglegs / blind shots . When in doubt i simply laid up off the tee to a known spot ie the 100 or 150 marker and played my second from there - worked well .
Before i pick on the condition too much i will say that the course does not pretend to be Augusta so i knew what to expect . It was overall better than i anticipated and would not stop me from playing there again .
The tees were in good condition with maybe one exception but it was not unplayable - just a little uneven . The fairways were quite good - again just a little rough here and there - but i don't think i rolled over more than one or two balls .
The real surprise - on the plus side - were the greens . They were very good - all of them . They were a little soft / spongy under foot but rolled very true and were also much quicker than you think . They varied in size from smallish to quite large and several had some large undulations / slope . They all ran the same quickish speed and the break was consistent from start to finish . Again , nice surprise to find such good greens - they really make this a fun course to play .
The variety of holes was also quite good and i used a lot of my sticks here - it is not just a driver wedge type of course . To play this course well you will have to think your way around it .
The scenery was pretty nice as well with a brook running thru several holes , some ponds , woodlands and a surprising amount of wildflowers to break up all the greenery .
I played once again with my hickory shafted clubs so teed it from around 5700 yds - shot 37 : 40 for 77 - but there were a couple of longer options that would stretch it out . If you are a scratch handicap this may not be the most challenging course but it was certainly fun and not over priced at all . If you are a mid to high capper you will certainly find places to look for balls but again , it is an enjoyable course .
As for the reviewers who complained about wet spots / flies etc i can only say that i found only one wet spot . It is a valley course with a brook running thru - i'll take a little wet over a boring setting any day . The deer flies were only noticed on one sheltered tee and on one hole where my partner strayed with a tee shot . It's summer in Canada - there may be some bugs :)
Overall , i would certainly play this course again . At $ 30 with a cart it is a deal and at $ 40 - 45 fairly priced . If you watch carefully you can get it for under $ 20 - a steal for sure .
This course doesn't claim or pretend to be in the provinces top 10 but it is certainly as good or better than advertised . If you go there with the right expectations you will be pleasantly surprised - i know i was .
Thanks to Diane , George and the very cheery cart girl .
Good value course
Overall, I like this place. Holes on the front 9 tend to be more wide open, while the back gets narrow on several holes. Some greens should be bigger, but they have been in good shape. The problem is that Simoro is marshy in some places, and it detracts from the quality of the course.
Nice greens and good value
Scored a great deal on Golf Now for $23 for golf and cart. Played in 3.5 hours. Greens were in fantastic condition and rolled nicely. Not very long at 6200 from the tips, but still used a variety of clubs in the bag, not just driver wedge.
Only complaint is the tee blocks aren't very level.
I have never been disappointed at Simoro
This little family run golf course is one of the hidden gems of near north golf courses, it has a little bit of everything and satisfies the needs of every level of golfer, I would not hesitate to recommend this course to everyone
needs some work
while the GN deal was excellent, it proved to be you get what you pay for. The tee boxes, fairways and bunkers need attention.
Great value for the money
Overall a nice course. Good value for the money. Paid $24 on golfnow with cart. Would definitely play this course again
This course has nice features
Had a fun round at this course. Played early afternoon during the week and there was no one immediately behind is or in front of us. Pace of play was great. The second hole is a little rough with lots of water so if you miss the green off the tee you are liable to plug in the mud. No complaints. It was a great day.
Great value.
Busy day so slower pace but great value. Course was in good condition and had the right mix of challenge's for all levels.
