This course requires some TLC
The quality of the this course has declined significantly with the new owners. The hired staff in the pro-shop are courteous but the owners are rude. If you are fortunate you will deal with the former. The green fees are low for this course but are definitely in line with the experience. They have a special where you can play a 2nd 9 the same day at Castlemore (owned by the same family) for $10. Even at $10 you getting what you pay for.
They need to hire a gardener/grounds keeper to perform some much needed maintenance; not only on the course but around the clubhouse. The fairways have many bare spots, some right around 100 yards in.
This course looks like it was built on a swamp. We played the day after a fairly heavy shower. The walkways between holes were under water on at least 5 of the nine holes and we had no choice but to walk through the water to get to the next hole. Bridges should be built in at least four locations and a longer bridge is required on the 8th/9th hole. The green on the 8th and tee of the 9th were inaccessible due to flooding.
Claimed The Longest 9-Holes in Ontario!
Most fairway requires attention, in particular sand bunkers are hard and filled with water!
Booked at last minute and green fee due at club. Staff told they accept CASH only, NO CREDIT CARD ACCEPTED. But Pro-Shop entrance and cashier counter with VISA/MASTERCARD/AMERICAN EXPRESS....logo for payment.
Have to use ATM in Pro Shop, but ATM charged $1.99 per cash withdraw plus bank charges!!!!
CRA will chase after them!!
Bombers paradise, but rough is very unforgiving. You will lose balls in plain sight.
This course has many blind tee shots and hazards on each side, your driver needs to be ON. Bunker sand is very heavy and sand traps are abundantly placed and awaiting slice and hooked shots of the average golfer. The fairway grass is playable but poorly maintained with lots of empty patches and the rough is very thick and really need to wack away to get ball flight. The greens are fairly straight forward and do not have much break; we played after rain so they were slow and had little break.
I would strongly suggest to play this course from ladies :) Par 5's from the blues are close to 600yrds.
For the price of a range bucket you can play 9 holes so I would strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for a value round. We paid $19/pp on a Sunday; it's even more affordable on weekdays.
Be prepared to lose a lot of balls and you won't find anything better than a top flite ball here :)
Greens require attention
Paths were under water, very wet, you get what you pay for.
Grounds need attention, our shoes ended up soaked from all the puddles and poor grass.
Hackers course
I was told I needed to call in and book a tee time even though I booked a tee time through golfnow.com. Also, cash only is unacceptable this day in age.
Don't play here
There is no marshal to begin with. The grounds are not taken care of in the least. It looks like someone's back yard. The bunkers are mud and not sand. The fairway was all patchy and muddy. The green was full of goose excrement, and I couldn't putt. Basically I will never go back. The only thing it has going for it is that it is a very long 9 hole play. So if that's what your looking for this may suffice, otherwise I would highly recommend staying away from this course
A fun challenge
This course is a lot of fun to play. It's always worth playing, no matter what the discount is. The greens have been in good shape (not impeccable) every time I've played and the rough is fairly thick throughout. This course will test your accuracy and consistency. This is a long course with a few really nice hazards that come into play. I play it every chance I get to practice.
Poorly Maintained Course
This is a great deal if you want to practice the long ball. I would not recommend this course to a beginner, even though the price is cheap. Fairways could use a little more TLC. Actually, the whole course could use a little TLC. Clubhouse mens bathroom has a terrible odour. Maybe clubhouse is not the correct word for this structure.
Good value, at the Golfnow discount rate.
You should be aware that the golf course has lost access to the paved parking area. The parking is now on a worst case rough heavy gravel area.
It was ok
Played this course for the first time on a Saturday morning with my son. I must say for the money it was not worth it as there are better 9 hole courses out there. The fairway require attention and the greens were below average. Will not be playing this course ever again.
golfcourse needs drainage duty. the whole course is flooded.
Golfcousre needs drainage system to get rid of the water angle high.
mediocre to poor in every regard
the course design isfine but after that everything is poor or worse. First there are no blocks marking the tee decks. The drainage is so poor that on a dry day the course is extremelly wet. The greens are extremelly slow
Tough 9 Hole!
Only a 9 Hole course, however, it is a tough course. The course can do with some love. There was a ball washer set up only on one hole. The course is still very wet and invariably you are playing from plugged lies and there is a lot of mud on the ball. The greens are dry and run pure, however, without facilities to clean the ball, course play can take long. None of the Tee Blocks were setup so you just had to pick a mound and assume that it was a specific tee block - red, white, blue or black. Not everyone has a GPS phone...
this course has poor drainage and therefore very muddy even on fairways
I know I played late in the season (Fall) but all the tee markers were removed and being new to the course I did not what the yardage was. This course was very wet even though we had no rain for the past week. The drainage is very poor. I think the overall it would be much better in the Summer. The clubhouse is not very inviting, no atmosphere and the furnishing very bad. The reception was also very unfriendly and not welcoming.
You get what you pay for; "yes" in recommending, with a caveat*
I come here to "warm up" or practice, which I find I think a lot of other people do here as well. Doesn't require you to book (you can just show up randomly), its cheap (normal prices are $15-25 ish), and it gets the job done! Sometimes I can usually get a Golfnow rate for $7-$10/9 holes, which is awesome!
So for what you pay for, you get a course that's long (you can use all your clubs), doesn't have the greatest of fairways or greens, and for the most part, is not too busy (except the odd time that I've been there). But I definitely wouldn't bring friends to play here (one of them did and complained), unless they've never played golf before or don't mind playing in a field near an industrial area.*
longest 9 hole I've had play
the course is very long, value is OK for what you get. the best deal is out of golfnow on "hot deals". you can criticized the course all day long. perhaps new management doesn't have a vision and the true potential. A new design Utilizing all the land available will give a new prosperous beginning to this gem on the rough.
very bad condition
their clubhouse is filthy, and not so friendly staff, and the course itself needs a lot of attention which I don't think they give.it used to be an OK course before but I think it's taken over by another owner
Good value tough 9 holes.
It is a unique long 9 hole course. If you want to play a tough 9 holes, this course for you. Conditions are ok for a $25 green fee. Need some TLC.
Nice and long, but that's about it
poorly maintained, but the length is great. black tees aren't even rated...
Not in great condition. Not a great ambience. Nestled in a swampy area amidst industrial buildings. Lots of ponds and drainage ditches as hazards.
Notwithstanding the summary observations, if you want a quick round and have time only for a 9 hole course, this fills the bill. Much more challenging than a normal 9 hole executive course. This course is noted as the longest 9 hole course in Canada.
The reason I say I would not recommend is because it does not have the ambience of a really nice course I would want a friend to play with.
