Tyandaga Golf Course
About
Tyandaga Golf Course is located in the heart of Burlington surrounded by the rugged beauty of the escarpment that encloses it. The municipal course is popular for its player-friendly layout. It has a gentle nature but it does offer a fair amount of challenges. Bunkers are strategically situated along the fairways and greensides. There are also a few ponds and a meandering stream that comes into play on several holes. One of the most difficult holes is the par-3 ninth, which features hazards along the entire right side from tee to green. It is a beastly 168 yards but par is possible. The back nine finishes with a strong hole as well. Tyandaga's tricky final hole has out-of-bounds down the right side but there is ample room down the left side for the tee shot. The deep green is sloped front to back with a bunker to the front right.

Horrible pace and conditions
The pace of play here was terrible, there was congestion from the very start of the round. Marshall doesnt do much besides drive around. Greens had divots and patches of dirt. It started to rain and the carts did not have rain covers for the clubs. Has potential to be a decent course.
Wow... shocked at the conditions / layout of this course
Got to the course, the staff were quite nice, for some reason they wanted us to go out 15 minutes early, no problem to us.
Pace of play was poor, on most holes, we were done putting and the group ahead was still waiting on the tee box to hit because the course was backed up. I get it, a course needs to make their money but, with covid and the extra spaced out tee times, you would think pace of play would be better.
Did not like the layout at all. Quite dangerous actually, hard to see where anyone is ahead of you, hard to see where the greens are, alot of blind shots. Suprised no-one got hit. The course could use better signage. Players should not have to guess which way to go to get to the next hole.
The conditions were TERRIBLE. We havent had alot of rain so I understand the yellow grass, but the course is poorly maintained. Bunkers that no longer have sand and are now just craters, the cart paths (if you can even call them that) are extremely bumpy, large patches of missing grass, the greens are torched and rotting.
I'm actually quite shocked at this course. I play the Mississauga and Toronto public courses all the time and LOVE them. Great value and the courses are usually well maintained. But Tyandaga is a huge miss. We left after 9 holes because of how backed up it was / poor conditions. I wanted to go in and ask for a refund but didn't feel like getting into it with the front desk staff. Oh well.. lesson learned.

Rain Check on a Sunny Day
We were playing the front nine and as we walked onto the 5th tee, the sprinklers came on! We got soaked before we could move our carts. We ended up hitting off the forward tees. Played the 5th, drove down to the 6th tees, same deal! It was a Par 3, we had no place to go so we got wet again. 7th and 8th tees, same deal. We got to the 9th tee, couldn't find a place to hit from so we quit playing. The marshall on the course apologized for the "technical difficulties". I played this course a lot in the late 70's and 80's, it hasn't improved with age.

Too Many Kids
The junior memberships are all sold out and it shows in pace of play. I understand to grow the game, the kids must be introduced to the game, but it seems like the parents are treating Tyanda like a babysitting service. The kids are dropped off without instructions from their parents or guidance from course marshalls about the proper golfing etiquette which slows down the pace of play considerably.

Grouchy Marshall
Decent course for the money - only a par 70, good to hack around on, not for the serious golfer. Not a flat lie on the course, very hilly, good shots can take horrible bounces into many hazards. Course was in rough shape, lots of dead grass on the fairways and the greens.

Good course value
Played mid-afternoon on a Monday so it wasn't very busy, making for a great pace of play. Fairways and greens in great condition considering the recent drought.

Good value
Great beginner course, couple tough holes but generally open fairways and fairways are reasonably kept. Don't expect perfect greens but course conditions weren't up to course standards at the time according to staff. Would definitely play again.
