Granite Ridge Golf Club - Ruby

Yesterday I play the Cobalt Course at Granite Ridge. I am from the States and play in Canada frequently. Late last year stopped by the course (after playing another in the vicinity) and viewed the 2 courses offered at Granite Ridge. The course are Cobalt and Ruby. The courses looked great, beautifully manicured, well laid out, maintained, with greens that show care and attention.

I decided I would play the courses in 2026. Yesterday was that day. The weather report looked great for an early November round, Temperature on the mid 70’s, with rain forecasted at 5-6PM. The price was fair for 18 holes and a cart included. I avoid the “9-hole” or the “no cart/walking” pricing many Canadian courses have started using on Golf Now the past couple years. I will not select them. Granite Ridge fit what I was looking for. I set out early for my 93-minute drive to the course, and as is common for that part, experienced a 30-minute delay due to traffic volume. The course staff was very accommodating. Upon my arrival I was greeted by them. They were extremely friendly and helpful. I got my cart quickly and was set to play. I played the Cobalt Course, which is a par 72, semi-private course. The Starter paired me with two members, Bill and Steve, both of who’s course knowledge and shot recommendations were invaluable in my scoring during the round. The course runs along the Niagara Escarpment. This, coupled with the fall colors, made for beautiful scenery and magnificent vistas. The playing area, fairways as well as the rough areas on either side of the fairways, were rather free of leave. The course has 3 sets of tees and 2 hybrids yardages to make for a nice yardage selection for golfers at all levels. Hole 1 is a nice starting hole. It is a dogleg left which sucks for a right-handed fader like me. I laid the shot short of the fairway bunker and had a clean good look in at the green from 123 yards. Hole 7 is a par 5 I hit two great shots and was looking at a 138 yard 3rd shot into the slightly elevated green, that was in line with a full carry over water and the guarding very high front lip sand trap. I lost concentration, bladed into the water, next shot into sand trap with my ball tight on very high front edge of the bunker--no shot. I had to come out sideways, chip and 2 putt, ruining my thoughts for a possible birdie putt, turned into a solid 9! I did birdie #12, a slight dog-leg left, with a second shot of 158y into the green with a 4-foot putt for the bird. In general, the holes ranged in difficulty. There were many very open inviting landing areas, as well as some of them tight and tree lined. Water may be an issue on about 1/3 of the holes depending on you shot. It can be easily avoided, but problematic if certain shots are not well place. I am guessing they have about 50 sand traps, maybe more on the course. They are all well-groomed, good loose soft sand, even sand depth and firmness, that provide a constant and fair challenge if I play them properly. Occasionally, (twice) I did not. The greens were straight forward and challenging at the same time. They putted very smooth and were reasonable fast. The greens were very readable but unfortunately at time deceptive. They often were undulated, making for sneaky nuances and surprise breaks that would instantly turn into a three-putt scenario at ball release if too hard or slow or slightly off line. I summary I had a wonderful round. I enjoyed the views, the weather, the Staff, my partners and most of all the course. I shot a 91 (which is higher than I wanted) but since it was my first time on the course, & with hole #7, was ok. The course was a lot of fun. I gladly and highly recommend this course to others.

Terrible pace of play. Asked the Marshall for help, improved slightly on the back. Guys I played with said slow play is common. Most of the staff were watching football on their phones.

Great course with friendly people. Very good conditions for anytime of year but especially now towards the end of the season.

Course is always in decent shape. Challenging and fun at the same time. You can score well, hitter straight!!🏌️

Golf course is in good shape, would absolutely never pay over $100 for this course though. Pace of play was horrid, took us an hour and 15 mins to finish 3 holes.

Overall Granite Ridge was a good one. Some of the fairways are a little tight and back onto each other so we saw other golfers quite often. Pace of play was fine. Minor backups but only because of the good weather so it was busy. Otherwise a good option all around.

Hands down, best course for the money you can find within the GTA.

Was very excited to play Ruby at granite ridge. Heard a lot of great things about it. And from the 3 holes we were able to play, I was very impressed.

Nice entrance, nice club house. First few holes were a nice challenge. Nice bunkers and hole placements. Beautiful. My foursome and I were loving it.

We went on Sunday/aug23 at 8:20 and there was rain in the forecast but the day started off just light rain. Well, it got heavy pretty fast. Torrential showers. We were soaked from head to toe even though we tried to keep going.

So after 3 holes we had to call it quits. Went back to the clubhouse, grabbed the rain check. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was: we only played the 3 holes and were told we’d be covered upon replay, but still would have to pay for the first 3 holes.

I figured it’d be different if we were able to get closer to 9 holes played. Thought we’d receive the rain check for all 18? Considering we weren’t able to even get a quarter of the track complete.

So that part of as a bit of a bummer.

Hoping to play again this week and redo. But wish the rain check covered the 18holes
