The Rock Golf Club

About
Located in Minett along the shores of Lake Rosseau, The Rock is a target-style course designed by Nick Faldo. The golf course is laid out over a scenic terrain of rolling hills, granite rock outcroppings, and hardwood trees. Faldo incorporated narrow, tree-lined fairways and sloping greens into the design to create a formidable test for players of all skill levels. At 6,545 yards from the back tees, it may not be particularly long but it is a demanding golf course that requires precision off the tees as well as greenside. The par-4 13th is a particularly challenging hole that requires a long tee shot that has to be played to the right to compensate for the severely sloping fairway that leans to the left and the uphill green is to the right past a large granite formation.

Exactly what I expected
This course was very challenging and is exactly what I expected. I play a lot of easy courses and I wanted something new. The course was pleasing to the eye and in great shape. How do the make a golf course in the middle of rock and bush
Beautiful but challenging
Liked the overall scenery and visual beauty of some of the holes.
Course is quite challenging and greens were fast. A few pin placements were quite unfair.
lightning fast greens
I'm a novice golfer and don't always hit straight so I found I went through a lot of balls. I found the course very challenging but not unfair. Definitely worth playing.
Fantastic
The course is in excellent condition, quite narrow so good for accuracy hitters. The terrain is beautiful and every hole very different. Haven't played it for a while and must say it is a "must" for good golfers. Pro-shop staff a bit dismissive.
You need lots of balls
A challenging course with relatively narrow fairways bordered by jungle. If you don't hit is straight - reload.
Very hilly course so club selection is key. Many greens are elevated with run off zones calling for a delicate lob wedge to get back onto the putting surface.
You rarely see other golfers between the forest but we saw six deer at various times during the round. The grounds staff said their biggest job each morning is raking the traps after the deer play in them in the evenings.
The course rewards good shot making. The greens are fast and undulating.
Great fun but not a course for vacation golfers who are not regular players. I would estimate that it suits an 20handicap or lower player. If in doubt pick the shorter tees. There are some challenging carries off the tee on some holes.
Slow Play
The course was very good but suffered from overwatering as most tee shots came backwards and balls were plugging all day. We left after 12 holes as pace of play was 4 hours til this point and the last two holes took an hour. You cannot have a 15 year old as your course marshal
Greens were fast
The Rock was surprisingly in great shape. We have played there several times over the last 10 years and have experienced some devastating conditions. This year they have out done themselves.
The club did have many other offers that were much better than we paid through Golf Now. It would be advantages to the consumer if you could list some of them.
Awesome course Great value
We played The Rock in 3.5 hours as we were the first group out. We booked and played a replay round for 49.00. This round took five hours as we were in the middle of a small scramble tournament. It was a great day on a fantastic course. Very beautiful and quite challenging.
It's All About Course Management
This course challeges golfers at every level. It is extremely important that all glofers play the correct tees to keep the pace of play and to enjoy the course to it's fullest. For example if your average score is in the 90-100 range and your handicap is between 20 - 25 you should definitely be playing the green tees. This course does have some short par 4 holes, But, I find this to give us average golfers a bit of a break in the middle of a challenging course and also even with a penalty stroke you could still find yourself putting for par.
Can't really ask for more.
Definitely one of my favourite courses in Muskoka!

Tough course with beautiful scenery
Tough course with beautiful scenery. Great staff and a very high end facility.
The course proved challenging because there was a few blind tee shots and lots of altitude change. Distance control and shot placement are key.
Different. Nice if you like rocks.

Spectacular
A truly great golf experience
Very friendly staff
Wonderful scenery
Awesome!!!
course was in excellent condition and challenged you at every hole. Green superb.. Five star plus!!! Staff very friendly.
Very underappreciated track. Maybe Muskoka's Finest?
I love this track. Quite hard but fair if you know your way around and don't get greedy. Perfect greens and the price is an absolute steal. Definitely not your cookie cutter grip-it-and-rip-it course. Play the right tees and keep it in the fairway and you'll enjoy yourself. Cheers!
“Worth the Drive … just don't use your Driver!”
The Rock is a relatively difficult course … you need to be accurate off the Tee … you'll need to be accurate on your approach and if that wasn't enough … you'll need to be a great chipper and putter … JUST to make bogey! But … BELIEVE ME … making bogey is an accomplishment since there is very little forgiveness to this course. That's not to say you won't be charmed by the natural beauty … or the relentlessness of the skill you'll need to muster in order to get through your round with your head held high! As an 18 handicap … I shot 92 and was very proud of my achievement. It ain't easy! BUT … if you're a lover of the game … you'll love The Rock … you'll need to 'think' your way around the course. In 18 holes I used my Driver twice … Teeing off with a Hybrid to go about 200 Yards … in the fairway so that the next shot would be either to the green or short of 'trouble' so that my next shot would be on the green! My expectation was bogey … or better …
We will not return. A shame because the course is beautiful.
The course was lovely and the staff are friendly. However our round took 5 1/2 hours and our cart broke down to boot. In addition, there was double bookings causing play to be extremely slow. This is because (apparently) the Pro Shop allowed a group that was meant to golf Monday in a tournament, to golf during an already booked Sunday - due to predicted bad weather the next day. Management should not have allowed this. When we asked to speak to a manager they were both unavailable. I left a comment card conveying our disappointment but nobody has responded. We will not be returning.
Beautiful course. Fortunately for me, now made a bit less hard.

A beautiful course that is challenging .
The Rock is a beautiful course . Very challenging . Fairways are well groomed and greens are " slick" , but fair . Well treed . fairways are narrow , so an accurate tee shot a must . Staff is very professional . Carts are clean and well maintained. A lot of rock , that can play havoc with a decent shot . All in all, a great place to spend the day .
great course that rewards smart play.
I really enjoyed my round, it is a very interesting layout that will punish you if you get greedy. Play smart and you will have a good time. Will be back.
my fave golf course in ontario !!!!
