In good shape, watch out for the ponds!
Nice greens, fairways. Some interesting holes. Clubhouse staff very nice.
Worth a Visit
My buddy and I secured a Sunday morning tee-time on this hidden gem of a course. You really can't beat the combination of greens fee + quality of course.
PROS:
> good practice facility (range + two large putting greens)
> good course design, tree lined fairways, rough is manageable
> the food at "the turn" is delicious and affordable
CONS:
> the pro shop staff nearly tried to get us to pay full price, because when we booked our tee time, the employee quoted us the wrong rate. in the end, they upheld the quoted green fee.
> the price for a small bucket of balls is outrageous
Slow round because of overbooking
I have golfed at this course many times over the years and have enjoyed my experience most times. It is early in the season so I did not expect the course to be in perfect condition - which it was not. The bunkers weren't in the best shape and the greens left something to be desired. Specifically, there were several greens that had lines running through them that were bare patches that would cause a rolling ball to go off course. And quite a few had the same bare patch in a circle around the greens by the fringe making it difficult to accurately hit a bump and run or putt from off the green.
The main complaint I had with the day was the wait times. (The clubhouse had said that they booked times 7 minutes apart.) After our first tee shots we were already waiting and wait times continued to get longer and longer as the day went on. By the end of 9 holes, we had reached the 3 hour mark (We were golfing in a twosome with cart). There was no point in playing through groups ahead as they seemed to be waiting as well. At one point we noticed 3 separate groups waiting to tee off on one hole several holes behind us. It ended up taking us 5.5 hours to finish our round. I think the clubhouse overbooked and it made it hard to get in any rhythm and really enjoy the day.
I will be back, as I usually enjoy this course, but I'm hoping I can finish a round sub 4.5 hours next time.
course has nice features
course was in good condition given it is early in the season and just opened.
2 Excellant practice greens readily available
Played the course on the 2nd day after the spring opening; the greens had been aerated that caused a few putting issues but not a big deal. The rest of the course was in excellent condition and you could tell that the putting greens would be in short order. The sand traps were playable with soft sand. There is 1 hole that is quirky; it is a very short par 4 (235 yards from the white tees); front half of the green is very narrow and sloped - this should be a difficult par 3. The grounds crew were busy on the course but did not interfere with the pace of play that was 4 hrs even with a few groups of Junior golfers that were 4 - 5 groups ahead of us. I would play this course again.
greens rough
The fairways and tee areas were in great shape but the greens were aerated and were very bumpy and the putts bounced off line quite a bit, I think they should not have charged as much as they did because of the greens
nice course
course was in great shape...I like playing this course as it has a great layout and lots of challenges, but not so punishing that you never want to come back.
well maintained, good signage
Found the staff very helpful, the fairways and roughs were cut and rolled well easy to find ball when it rolled off. There was little to no break on greens and well watered, balls checks up quickly with little roll. Very forgiving if balls traveled out of fairways. Light rain at about the 15th hole but for most of the game was overcast and perfect, no wind.
Don't be in a RUSH
My first impression...I walk into the club house and the staff are in the "money grab" mode. Don't bother asking me if I am riding or walking, just charge me the higher rate.
The greens keeping staff is very good. The greens are smooth and true and in good condition. It's not their fault that the majority of today's hackers (not real golfers) don't bother to clean up after themselves (rake a bunker, fix a divot or ball mark).
Now the worst part. My buddy and I (both 11 handicappers), had to wait for the group in front of us since hole #8. We grabbed a burger at the turn (staff is friendly there), and proceeded to have to wait at every hole on the back nine. I called the course from #14 asking for a marshall to assist, but nobody came out, nothing improved.
So, if you can find a tee time when the course isn't busy, it's a great course with many challenging holes - but don't count on the staff to help you out if you find yourself behind a bunch of idiots with no golf course etiquette. It's quite obvious that Customer Service is not a priority for the owners of Rolling Meadows.
And to put things in perspective, I'm not writing this after a bad round, I shot a +3 on the back.
Great day on a nice course
Fun time .. challenging ..... good bargain ... Water comes into play and that if exciting .
I'll be back!
Very good course for the money. Great value and well maintained.
Only beef was pace of play. two foursomes of ladies in front of us playing best ball. Unbelievably slow even for BB. No help from Marshall.
When I mentioned it in the pro shop after the round, the staff shrugged it off as they were learning. Lost them in the back nine and played in 1 1/2 hours.
Some tricky holes. Lunch off the menu included makes it a real bargoon. Overall very nice venue and I will go back for sure.
GREAT STAFF
This is a great course to play, I would recommend this course to locals or tourists. From the time you check in with the courteous staff, with the beer cart girls on the course to the excellent 19 hole for drinks and excellent food. One of my favourite courses to play. The excellent staff always make your day.
Did not play
Saw the reviews and great deal on golf now. Rate 16 dollars each with cart.
Unfortunately did not call in advance and a Minor hockey team/parents were teeing off prior to our tee off.
We were told by the staff member( not an overly friendly guy) we would likely catch them.
We decided not to play a potential 3-4 hr round that may result in a significant further delay.
Best Course for you're money.
An excellent, fun course to play for all skill levels. The staff are exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. The conditions of the fairways and greens is immaculate. And one if the most reasonably priced courses in the Niagara area. If you have not played Rolling Meadows yet you simply must.
Still a fun course to play despite.........
First the negative.
Wet in spots from a big rain two days earlier. Greens a tad slower then normal. Pace was 5 hour round with a backup on some tees. Some bunkers not maintained that day because of a lot of footprints and indentations .
Now the positive.
Fairways and rough well maintained. Layout, as always has some fun holes. #1,4,6,7,810,11,18.
#8 is a drivable par 4 that can turn into a big score if not played with precision shots.
Rolling Meadows
Course is in great shape. Greens are pristine. It was a pleasure to play
This course has great value
For the price, this is one of the best golf courses in Niagara.
Great day
The course is fun for all types of golfers and in great shape. Friendly staff and great value for the money.. I always have a good time at rolling meadows
Spring 2015 course good to go
Golfed here for the first time this year and the course is in good overall conditions. Greens are in decent shape and roll at about a medium speed. The course is dry but staff were seen watering whenever and wherever they could without disrupting player enjoyment. Would recommend. Good value for money.
