Royal Niagara Golf Club - Old Canal Course
About
The Old Canal Course is one of three nine-hole courses at the Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club. Situated between the scenic Niagara Escarpment and the Bruce Trail, the Old Canal Course is named after the historic 120-year-old Welland Canal that borders it. The challenging layout was designed to championship standards, employing several tricky elements including carefully sculpted fairways, rolling greens, and king-size bunkers. True to its name, the golf course features plenty of water throughout. There are several dramatically placed tees perched on the edges of the canal, providing stunning scenery that is unmatched in the Niagara region. All three courses at Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club were built to the same high standards, but each one offers a unique set of challenges.

Worth the drive!
Absolutely amazing! I’ve been playing Mt Nemo, Lowville and a few others in the Milton area but will definitely making the 45 minute drive more often. The course is in beautiful condition and the layout is what courses should strive for. Add the fact I golfed 18 holes for under $60 as well. I love the spacing between holes. It’s seems like the course was designed based off the land and not the space available. Definitely my favourite course in southern Ontario so far.
Excellent Royal Niagara Experience
Course was played after 36 hours of rain.
It still made for an exciting afternoon of golf. The layout is is exceptional and a true test of your ability.
We will surely return to tackle this amazing course.

Good Track
Course was in good shape, nothing dried out or burnt, greens held nicely. Same complaint for every course is players not repairing ball marks on the greens and rake your traps. Escarpment nine was closed.
Golf Cart Policy
Worst golf course golf cart policy ever. Took almost 20min to sign in at pro shop and go online to fill out golf cart waivers.
If it was not dead slow, we would have been 10 or 20 minutes late for our tee time.
If it was busy I can't imagine, no way I'll play there again.
Also, no beer cart, when it was 30 degrees and sunny out....not cool.
Great course
Amazing course… cheap for the quality . nicest staff ever! love it here.
Slow Pace of Play
The pace of play was severely compromised by walkers on the course. The distance between some of the holes is very long, one hole in particular on the Escarpment course, is probably a 1/2 kilometer. On that hole, we had 2 groups in carts behind the walkers just inching along until they reached the next tee box. As a result, the round was a very disappointing 5 hours long. This is a nice course but I would not recommend it until they address the pace of play issue.
Great shape
Course was in great condition and they have made some good upgrades. Course is challenging but fair. Would recommend.
Kaneff Making Improvements to Royal Niagara
Played Escarpment and Canal. Escarpment which is my favourite of the 3 and Canal the least favourite. Sand bunkers vastly improved on Escarpment , whereas Canal still has the old, hard, waste sand bunkers, but hopefully they'll improve that this year. Both courses the greens were slow, and some tee boxes need weed control. However, overall glad they are heading in the right direction.
