Pace of play
Pace was extremely slow. There was a group of 5 players 2 groups ahead of us which slowed things down immensely. We, unfortunately, had to wait on each hole!
Great course, excellent condition, highly recommended.
Memories
My son grew up playing Bloomington Downs, and we have many fond memories of the course. We don’t play the course as much as previously, but try to get out at least once per season. It’s always enjoyable and our latest round was no exception.
The course is in great shape and I’ve always maintained that the greens are better than many more expensive courses. Overall, It is a relatively easy track with lots of room, so you can score well, even if you struggle with accuracy. That said, the par 5 6th hole demands accuracy and they have allowed the rough to grow long in many places since the last time we played, so it is a bit less forgiving.
The only down side is because it appeals to golfers of all skill levels, the pace of play can be slow at times.
That aside, if you want a relaxed, enjoyable round, I highly recommend Bloomington Downs
Construction Complete
They have lengthened most of the holes and have added blue tees now. Would rather them work on the sand traps around the greens as the sand is very compacted.
Construction almost wrapped
The extensive addition of blues and extra yardage makes for a lot of fun . Course pace of play was average to lack of marshalling and. 2 separate groups of 4 walking did not help at all .
Otherwise a good time !
Slow play & concrete tee box
Broke many a tee trying to put them into the ground. Almost all tee boxes were hard as a concrete.
Pace of play was also extremely slow. With no marshals actively managing the pace, some groups spent value time looking for lost balls which backed up the play. Bloomington Downs needs to hire course marshals, especially during weekends.
Greens where in great shape
It is not a long course and therefore very easy to walk. For two golfers we finished 18 holes in slightly less than 4 hours.
Just a couple of suggestions…. .
1) would like to see the rough cut shorter to save time looking for balls.
2) Better maintenance of outhousess. Most times the toilet is disgusting and have paper towels etc thrown in them likely preventing flushing. Placing garbage containers outside could help with this problem.
