Pace of play
When we finished the front 9 and went to the 10T there was a back-up of 3 foursomes on the T! Poor control from the marshalls. We played the front again....
Wildwinds 1103
Great track, good layout, plush fairways and greens. The Traps need to be reworked and sand added. All the sand has disappeared. Hopefully next year they do some trap repairs. Today we played right through, not very busy at all. The greens were very testy.
Wildwinds 1252
Today was slow on the front nine. Seemed like they booked extra, not really overbooked. Some playing best ball, average wait time per hole 10minutes. We think the course had more players because another course in Guelph has put their prices up really high, those players came to Wildwinds. Everyone said that the day was great, true, but this course should play in 4hours or less.
They should have Marshall out to keep things moving properly.
Showing signs of dry weather
I haven't seen Wildwinds' fairways look this rough in a while. Not all of them, but there are brown patches on a number of fairways. Greens had been aerated a while a go, and while coming back fairly well, were still kinda bumpy.
Pace of play was really slow. there were par three holes with two or three groups waiting to tee off.
The pro shop staff are great, very friendly. But try to get a sandwich or a beer. They were nowhere to be seen, and no bell to call them.
This used to be my favourite local course, but it's gone downhill the last year or two.
Just perfect
Very friendly staff who enjoy having you there. Some challenging holes but forgiving for the most part. Greens can be tricky depending on pin placement.
The course is playing well in the early fall
My other reviews say it all. Just be aware the greens are a little bumpy after the aeration but they are quickly returning back to normal.
The course is playing great.
Great course for left handers!
Almost every hole on this course is set up more for left-handed golfers, which is why I like it. The greens are almost all sloped in some way making putting important if you're going to score well. I've been here a number of times over the years, due to the reasonable price and the food has never been good and there is just a skiff of sand in all the bunkers. Otherwise, it's a great place to golf!
Greens were in poor condition
Went to wild winds last year and had a great experience but today the pace was slow and the greens were in poor condition bunkers were rock solid and the greens were just aerated so your ball just bounced along while putting, made the short game very frustrating
Wildwinds 830
very plush, fairways and greens super, long rough, still ok. Staff are always great to talk to, Had BBQ to go to so didn't stop for food this time.
Great value
Played here many times. Fun course. Play well and you can shoot a good score. I wish courses that have aerated the greens would advertise it before you book though. Perhaps if we had called the course directly they would have told us???
Challenging
Always a great time at wildwinds. Staff very friendly and course in great shape.
1st time
a bit of a drive but worthwhile, course offers a variety of terrain, greens were in great shape, however most greens had undulations that presented a challenge, some greens were impossible to hold if you landed on the green . fairways were in good shape, bunkers were rough as the course had experienced extremely heavy rain over a short time frame the day before.
limited size pro shop but friendly staff in both the pro shop and bar/restaurant.
Will come back again.
Good value
Course was in good shape, staff were friendly. Only downside was no beverage cart on the course on a hot day.
This is a Great Track
I have golfed here many times and this course never gets old. The grounds staff keep the course looking and playing great.
The course plays like two different courses in one with both Links style holes and traditional wooded holes. The green have some nice undulations with good movement.
Stay in the fairways, landing in the rough will cost a stroke or two especially on the Links part of the course.
And the staff from the Pro Shop to the starters and hospitality are awesome.
Becoming my favorite local course
Second time playing and I'm really liking this course.
It's not long or tough off the tee. Good tee shots are still needed though to set up approaches, where the course's real challenges are. There is no way you are going to shoot a good score here without hitting your approaches in the right places, and, most importantly, not missing in the wrong places.
They take pace of play seriously here. We finished as a threesome of mixed walkers and riders in 3h45m, yet still got asked to pick up the pace at one point. I did find that a little annoying. I'm here to shoot a score, not a time.
Also, learned something that I wish the staff had mentioned before my first round. There is a courtesy cart parked behind the 9th green for walkers to use to climb the hill to the 10th tee and return on their way back down. That save a lot of time and was a welcome relief on a hot day.
A beautiful day
Starter was sharp and shuffled groups together. Moved us up one start time and joined us up with a super nice couple. He played black tees. The lady and ourselves played whites. Round took four hours. We never caught up to anyone and the twosome behind us never had to wait for us. Great pace of play. Beautiful sunny day and the cart girl made the rounds often enough. With a Hot Deal we paid $48. The same price the couple paid to walk with a pull cart. Need a few good rains to green the fairways up a bit.
