Golfer Reviews
many creeks
Tight holes & a lot of creeks on the front nine, back 9 mainly straight holes, 18th will put a little fear in ya. Very good challenge from the back tees.
Greens were in great shape
not worth paying full price to play. If your going to play it try to use the mid-week price thru Golf Now
Tight fairways and lots of water hazard. A great course for good players, but can be frustrating for handicap players.
Be sure to bring extra balls as you will likely not locate your ball if it is not on the fairway. The grass outside of fairway is thick and can be cut a bit more to locate the ball.
Decent course
Challenging course but also rewarding. Fast greens, nice atmophere
Slow but nice day
Pace of play was pretty slow.
Fairways were decent, certain areas of roughs were slightly bogged from the recent wet weather. Green conditions were slightly above average.
Marshall John was great and provided excellent service for bringing me my sausage I had purchased at the beginning of the round but forgot to pick it up.
A Mature Gem
Although little over 30 years old the challenge presented by a layout that used natural features and strategically planted trees to provide a great test of golf - It rewards good shots and punishes bad shots. If you are looking for golf at its' best in a quiet setting head for Ballantrae. This course reminded me of some parkland layouts back home in Scotland it was only missing the bad weather!
Reasonably priced course with some challenging holes.
Friendly staff. We played during a weekday and the course was wide open. Greens and fairways are in good to excellent condition. Absence of Johnny on the spots. The snack cart made frequent rounds and assisted in finding a 'lost' club. No breakfast service but coffee available. Very good food service from late am on. A good course with some challenging holes.
Short but tough!
Although this is a short course, the front nine present some challenges with its narrow fairways. It opened up in the back nine after hole number 10.
Nice course and decent for the money
Staff were very friendly and Marshalls were diligent about maintaining the pace of play. Nice course and reasonably close to TO.
Greens were very slow and was not cut or rolled
Putting was a nightmare as the greens were pretty slow and were not in very good shape. Pace of play was ridiculously slow as it took us almost 5 hours to play on a Friday afternoon.
Course is normally decent but I wouldn't say great by any means. There are some nice holes and some poorly designed ones. I have never been a huge fan of Maples but will play it once a year as part of my rotation.
Great course for the value.
Started early. Had a slow group in front, but still managed to finish in great time. Didn't lose as many balls since the trees are fairly forgiving. Had a group behind us that was very loud and disruptive which marshal didn't catch but was only noticeable on 2 holes.
Really liked the course, maybe partly because I shot the best I've ever shot, but will definitely be back.
Challenging yet forgiving fairways.
The Maples of Ballantrae - Great location, not far from TO. Beautiful course, well maintained and friendly staff. Had golf buddies in from Montreal and they all enjoyed the course. 18th was scary and challenging, what a way to finish!
Definitely would play this course again.
Poor pace of play
I have played here a few times and the pace is moderate but never atrocious. For some reason this round, if I can call it that was horrible. We were supposed to tee off around 215 but we did not hit till 250 pm. Readers digest is that we pulled the plug after 2 hrs which only brought us to the 6th hole. We spent more time waiting than actually playing.
The staff was understanding and gave us a rain check minus 5 holes which wasn't too bad I guess.
At least it was sunny out and the refreshments were cold.
Suprising
Not at all what I expected in a good way. Unfortunately my game was in a lousy state for my round. Hopefully I'll check back in when I have control of my driver. But the course was really nice and I would recommend to anyone looking for a place to get a round in. Well played Maples of Ballantrae!
Golf carts old and bouncy
Played late during the week. Course was in great condition and absorbed rain well. Golf cart was very bouncy - might have been less tiring to walk.
Good course for the long and short game.
Maples of Ballantrae, 18 holes, was a nice course to play. A lot of challenging holes. Good course for both the long and short game. The course was in good condition, with only a few wet spots although it had been raining the night before. Greens were bumpy. Still a bit spring-like. Play was slow but typical for a weekend. Took 5+ hours should take 3.5. Will play this course again.
LLLLLoooooonnnnnnggggg round
Either overbooked or not well marshalled but it took way too long to finish this round
