What a Deal!
Wanted to take my son out ... only his second time on a real course. Didn't catch anyone 'til the 11th, and we weren't pressured from behind. A good learning experience for him. A couple of blind doglegs to the right make it interesting (hadn't been there in years), but I'd go back in a heartbeat. Worth the drive from London.
Note: Nice young man greeted us upon arrival in the parking lot and loaded our bags onto the cart!
Widder is a fun course
The greens survived a horrible winter rather well and the overall conditioin was quite good. There are a number of different and interesting hole types and it was fun to play this course.
Starter
Starter is needed here. Golfers lined up. Pay for tee time. When you check in him or her tells you a couple of times ahead of you your good to go. But when you get there you have 4 or 5 ahead of you. When we arrived to get our cart the fellow bringing up the carts played the group behind us. The course was wet in areas. This fellow went through these areas to spin the wheels of the cart???? He new the ranger on the course as they talked about the previous day as we waited to tee off on the next holes.. Some management is needed here.
Nice Layout
Played on a Saturday Afternoon--pace of play quite slow as we were a twosome following a couple slow foursomes .. Fairways quite dried out and rough very dry. Greens in fair shape with some scorched spots [about 10% of each green] . With some rain , course should come back nicely.. Give it a try during the week when fewer cottagers around.
Intriguing holes
While the course could be in better shape, holes like 11 and 18 really make it an enjoyable round. Will definitely be back if golf now has more hot deals here.
Good course, good deal but very slow
Very slow and the marshall did nothing about it. Other than that it was a good course.
This course has character
This course is very open to wind conditions. Club selection depending on the wind could be 3 different clubs. There are a few risk reward holes that can get you into trouble if you choose "RISK"
Good Golf @Widder
Course is in good shape, very little winter kill on the greens.. Staff very helpful and friendly. A little tight is places but challenging.. Tee boxes seem to overlap at times but manageable. Good course overall, will return for another round.
A great golf afternoon
My wife and I enjoyed a fun round of golf. The pace was good, the conditions were great, and the weather was perfect. The greens were fast and true, the fairways were firm, and the staff were friendly. Ww booked through GolfNow and received a Hot Deal. This course is worth another visit;
Swing or Miss
I've played this course a dozen or so times, its usually in very good shape and offers great value through GolfNow. Its a par 72 and is relatively easy and forgiving. Everyone is really nice. Weekend rounds are consistently 4 1/2 hrs + (Sunday took 5hrs 30 minutes!).
Nice layout
The greens had a few spotty patches but not too bad
Fairways were very hard even cracked in places
I would play this coarse again but later after they get some rain
Great value
Can't beat widder, playable for all skill levels, because of wet spring not up to normal conditions, but getting close. As always great experience from the time you arrive until you leave. When I walked in the door the staff knew who I was and that it was a golf now reservation
Its like playing in your back yard
over all course lay out was nice, but the tee placards don't really show much, like where the green is. there is a driveable par 4 on the front nine if you aim 45 degrees right of the fairway about 230 or 240 yrds.
The fairway grass is about 1 inch long and not cut, but pushed over from the excess water, really wet. The tee box has 2 inch or better uncut grass with lots of dandelions. I will make another trip out in July or August to see if its any better.
Enjoyable
The course was in good condition, pace of play was very slow and we did not see any ranger on the course.
Lovely course
The course was in excellent condition and was not overly busy - obviously well managed by the staff. Beautiful scenery. Can't wait to play there again!!
A fair test for the average golfer
Great value, interesting course, good condition.
I would highly recommend this course.
Greens are in great shape
A hidden gem 30 minutes west of the city. Lots of risk/reward.holes. Greens were quick and held approach shots. Great value
well cared for, good value
Did two rounds at Widder Station while camping at nearby Pinery Provincial Park. Nice country course, lovingly maintained. Fairly forgiving with a few wide open holes, but a few more challenging as well. Staff were great and the regular patrons friendly. Recommended!
Well Maintained
Course is in great condition for the time of year and is generally wide open except for a few holes that require precise distances. Large greens. No. 15 is 100 feet deep. A driver is not always your first choice on holes 7,8 and 11. Finishing par 5 hole requires 3 well placed shots to give you an opportunity to make par.
Great course
Each hole had it's own challenges but the fairways were wide enough for high handicap players to enjoy it.
