Nice scenery, yet challenging for walking
Very difficult to walk, definitely needs a cart.
Not suitable to walk
Terrible experience as the residents surrounding the course treats the course as extension of their own backyard, we encountered residents stopping our play by walking in front of our group towards the green to look for his dog and two groups of cyclists strolling on the fairways and greens.
Not for beginners
Played this course for the first time last night, twilight round. Was told it was walking only and thought, sure why not? it's only 9 holes. 9 holes of serious hillage! Maybe fine for a youngin' or a goat (saw that in another review) but being in my 50's this turned out to be a negative fun affair. If you must play here GET A CART and drive safe. Holes are challenging, know your distance with your clubs, take extra balls and be accurate or frustration will soon take hold. Otherwise it's a scenic course, especially at the apex of the ski hill after the par 4/5 5th.
Challenging 9 holes
This is the toughest 9 hole course I have played. Slopes are steep because the course is used as a ski hill in the winter. Greens are in good condition but fairways are lumpy and irregular from a lot of ground moisture. I strongly advise taking a golf cart because some of the paths are very steep, up and down. If you like a challenge, you'll love this course.
Great track!
I play Uplands frequently. You can pull the driver out quite a bit and the holes are different and challenging enough it makes for an interesting round of golf.
Good local course
I've played Uplands a number of times, and usually find it to be enjoyable and very scenic. There is a tendency for the course to back up as the pace of play bogs down. Add in some newer players and a few blind tee locations and you can have golf balls raining on you. Stay alert and have fun.
not what it used to be...
Played here many times over the years (live close by); course has seen better days. Tee boxes chewed up; greens need repair (don't golfers know how to repair ball-marks anymore?); fairways bumpy (especially on hole #3 - to be fair, I know there is a drainage problem there); carts ageing. It is a challenging course, and not many people know that, considering it's "only" 9 holes. That's a legacy of the former 18 hole course. However, on the day we played, there was a tournament finishing, and, to their credit, course officials were able to clear that up proficiently. I know the course is owned by the city of Vaughan, and probably is a money-loser (along with the skiing facilities in our now-shortened winters).
The challenge is on
One really does need to be part goat to walk this
course. The pro shop should warn those in advanced
age groups to take a cart!!
Short in Yardage, but tight in accuracy
Very nice old fashioned design where accuracy is needed ahead of length. Greens are small and well bunkered.
Accuracy of both drives and second shots into the greens are critical
Very Enjoyable
Good challenge close to home
Challenging holes even though it's only 9. Lots of trees and elevated greens to challenge most mid to high range golfers.
Took more than three hours for 9 holes of golf.
The course condition was not bad except for the third hole. However, the pace of play was unacceptable and there was no course marshall to be seen for the three and a quarter hours we had to suffer. The staff didn't mention about a tournament full of newbies right in front of us when we checked in. I would not have played here if it was going to be a 3+ hour for nine holes of golf.
very intetesting course layout
Very interesting hole layouts...almost to the point of annoying (but not quite...fine line between fun & annoying)...Quite a few blind shots, over/around trees, etc.
LOTS of hills...I walked and found it a very tiring by the end of the nine. Low value in this course if you have to pay for a riding cart for the 9.
It was not busy at all...no one in front or behind me, allowed me to take a few smoke breaks to get some rest from the long trek up/down the hills.
Overall a fun 9 holes, but would not go back as it is not a pleasant walk (I try and walk when I can).
Location is great as it is in the GTA
double taxed
booked online using golfnow. already paid tax and booking fees. when I got to the course, I was taxed again on the balance.
Great course for money
Good challenging course. We only got held up on the last hole so pace was very good. DO NOT try to walk this course. A cart is a must.
good way to enjoy a little golf and exercise at the same time
challenging course with many hills and water hazards. Decently well kept.
Nice round of golf
Uplands is in OK shape - some winter damage is evident. The course is a pretty challenging round, with forces carries on 7 of the 9 holes - not for beginners. Hole #8 is a spectacular & very difficult par 3. Take a cart as this is a tough 9 holes to walk.
Maybe In The Past...
I've read about Uplands for years, so was really looking forward to it. The course is crazy hilly - which is kind of fun, but the fairways were in brutal shape. Seemingly random patches of unmowed grass in the middle. Little supervision, one pair of golfers skipped a hole and tried to sneak in front of us.
Even the 8th - the famous long par three - while in a spectacular setting - looks like we've been suffering through a drought here. Which we haven't. I didn't see a single maintenance person on the course. Even on a Sunday, Toronto's municipal courses have people tending them.
And when the only washroom facility for the entire nine holes is an outhouse that has a seat covered in feces - and has clearly not been tended to for quite some time - it is clear that this course is one to be avoided. No matter who designed it.
This course is very scenic and quite challenging
One of the features I like in this course is its forest like environment and the different challenges of every hole. Also, the greens are fast which I like as well.
Staff are friendly and very accommodating.
