About
Set along the Rio Grande River, this is a scenic course with spectacular views. The front nine was built in 1987, and the back nine followed in 1992. The highlight of the course is what is perhaps the longest water hazard in Texas, the Rio Grande River, which flows along holes 5 through 13 on the left side of the fairway.
Narrow fairways and grass bunkers make the course tough, especially when the wind is howling, as it is tough to hit the small, firm greens. Water is everywhere. No. 14 is the only hole without water. The par 3 17th hole, with its island greens, headlines a series of demanding par 3 holes. The last hole plays 434 yards into the wind and has out-of-bounds on either side of the fairway.
Getting there : From Harlingen take Hwy. 77 south. When you come to Hwy. 802 turn right, then continue until you reach Hwy 281. Turn right again and drive approximately 2.5 miles to the course

River bend resort
Always wanted to play this course based on feedback from friends and some of the reviews posted. I should say , I am not disappointed at all, and it is definitely a course I will love to play again whenever I go back to Brownsville Texas. Pro Shop staff was helpful, the course layout is very nice and it is properly maintained, Fairways and greens were in very good condition. My son an I really enjoyed playing here , and we both agree we need to come back sometime.

Rio Grande is beautiful
Great course that runs along the Rio Grande. Nice interesting layout. Greens are excellent. Fast and smooth. Nice wide fairways off the tee with some challenging approaches. Overall lots of fun.

Along the Rio Grande and Mexico
River Bend golf course winds through an over 55 RV/Mobile Home community. A few of the tee boxes are a challenge to locate and you have to take your cart through the homes. I played the red tees because I am old. Playing the longest tees would be a far different course. The greens are slow, but probably need to be in this climate. The homes are well positioned out of harms way. The fairways are in great shape. We have had a lot of rain through the hottest months. The wind and heat kept all but a few golfers off the course.
