About
Set along the Rio Grande River, this is a scenic course with spectacular views. The front nine was built in 1987, and the back nine followed in 1992. The highlight of the course is what is perhaps the longest water hazard in Texas, the Rio Grande River, which flows along holes 5 through 13 on the left side of the fairway.
Narrow fairways and grass bunkers make the course tough, especially when the wind is howling, as it is tough to hit the small, firm greens. Water is everywhere. No. 14 is the only hole without water. The par 3 17th hole, with its island greens, headlines a series of demanding par 3 holes. The last hole plays 434 yards into the wind and has out-of-bounds on either side of the fairway.
Getting there : From Harlingen take Hwy. 77 south. When you come to Hwy. 802 turn right, then continue until you reach Hwy 281. Turn right again and drive approximately 2.5 miles to the course

Along the Rio Grande and Mexico
River Bend golf course winds through an over 55 RV/Mobile Home community. A few of the tee boxes are a challenge to locate and you have to take your cart through the homes. I played the red tees because I am old. Playing the longest tees would be a far different course. The greens are slow, but probably need to be in this climate. The homes are well positioned out of harms way. The fairways are in great shape. We have had a lot of rain through the hottest months. The wind and heat kept all but a few golfers off the course.

Great place to play
I have played all over the valley and here at riverbend seems that the players have respect for everyone and not hitting into you cause there’s groups in front of you that is holding everyone back and besides that the course is always in great shape

No greens
There was no warning on their website or on here that they were using temporary greens. We drove an hour and a half to find out at the course of these conditions. There isn’t really another course close by so we still decided to play. Was not worth the 30 some dollars to play. Maybe wait 5 weeks and it might be decent
Great golf course
Riverbend is an amazing golf course. It is well taken care of and and has excellent staff. It also has amazing scenery of the Rio Grande River along the golf course.
Good golf course
This is a great golf course if you want a challenge. Water hazards are everywhere so bring plenty of golf balls lol.
