Hot day needed more beverage carts
We played 36C, humidex 46C. Teed off in the morning to avoid the worst of the heat. The coffee shop was not open before tee off so we couldn't buy drinks and the pro shop had a cooler but didn't advise that was the only place to get fluids for the front nine. We drank all the liquids we brought with us, and by 7th hole were a bit worried. The marshall radiod and reported the beverage cart had gone out on the back nine. He kindly got a bottle of water from the halfway house. We restocked there. Bring your own water from home.
Grey Silo
One of my favourite courses to play in the Waterloo area. It has a great layout that is challenging and rewarding. The sand traps were under repair as they work to add additional sand. I hope they don't cheap out on the sand. Nothing worse than playing a sand-trap with no sand. :)
Great Place to Play !
Very good challenge and well maintained. Pace of play is slow. It would be best to be a 20 handicap or less to enjoy your round.
a challenge
this course is a challenge if you are
more than 15 hdcp.
Great course in top shape
Always a pleasure to play the Silo. Staff are super friendly and accommodating. The course in in great condition.
Enjoyable Round of golf
Course was is great condition. Never waited on any hole. Speed of play was perfect.
Sad to hear golf north is not going to take care of there bunkers as a cost savings. To pay top dollar for this course and not have suitable conditions for the bunkers is a poor choice on there part. Lift Rack and place in the bunkers is ridiculous.
Golf North
Golf North is once again at it trying to lower there cost. Now they are doing with there bunkers. Lift rake and place how ever you desire. Come this is not golf bunkers are a huge play in the scoring in golf. I payed $90 dollars that is outrageous . Golf North should be ashamed to what they are doing to these golf courses. It's hard to believe the LPGA once held a tournament there.
Spend elsewhere
Viewed as Golfnorth Elite course, and priced accordingly.. Club house sucks and extremely expensive to eat there. Bad food high price. No sand in bunkers, you have to life rack bunkers and place clean lie as they don’t maintain them at all. They don’t spend any money and charge a lot. Go elsewhere.
Great course!
Joined up with a couple of the course marshal’s. I enjoyed the conversation, the course and the day overall. I highly recommend this course and look forward to playing it again.
Not worth the money!
When I entered the pro shop I was not greeted. The employee said nothing to me while he processed the transaction. I then went to get my power cart. The seat was wet. I asked for a towel and the starter said all I have is a damp one. Great customer service. None of the staff smiled.
Enough of my service rating.
The course is nicely laid out. Bunkers and greens were in poor condition.
This course is NOT worth the money.
Yesterday I played Doon Valley. Paid half the price and received fantastic service and course in great shape.
Great round of golf
Course was in great shape, fast greens, interesting lay out, challenging for a duffer like me
Young, pretty, middle-of-the-road challenge
Beware water going out, narrower landing zones coming in. A handicap lowerer.
So much promise...
Grey Silo, a Waterloo muni managed by Golf North, is a great design. All 18 holes are challenging, yet playable. Don’t let the relative shortness of the course (6500 yards from the tips) fool you. It’s a great track for players at all levels.
But the Golf North experience is always disappointing. The rangers and startersand greeters are great but the staff — another story. The young man in the Pro Shop was surly at best. He never even looked st me.
The tees and fairways at Silo are always trimmed beautifully. The greens had been recently VertiCut when I played so putts tended to bobble and bounce. The mostly po greens are always shaggy to my eye.
Also, grey silo wants you to lift, rake and place in their very inconsistent bunkers. They suggest it will speed up play. Instead, it slows play and many players rake to place their ball and then don’t rake again. Awful
Grey Silo is one of the best munis in Ontario. But its promise is never achieved and that is very frustrating. I was a member for a number of years until this year and that frustration is one of the reasons I left.
Yes, I recommend this golf course, but not without reservations.
Nice coarse
Very nicely laid out green where nice but slow. I really liked this coarse
