Love the course just wish they would take better care of the greens.
Fairways were in better putting shape than the greens
.
We had a lot of fun playing this course. We had a foursome and not many players out there so we paced ourselves. This course has a nice layout. The sand bunkers need some attention.
Good Course
Good golf for the money! Greens are not pristine on some hole but overall are good quality.
Nice course
This course was in good shape and fun to play. There is no food other than snacks, candy, ect. I like a sandwich or burger at the turn.
I like the couirse very much
This course always moves at a great pace. On Friday with a crowd we played in 4 hours
Good challenging course at a great price
Staff was super, We were off at the exact time and the pace of play was great. I found the tee boxes, fairways, sand traps to
be great. The greens were ready to bereseeded for the summer but were very puttable. Gas Carts were in great
condition. I will be back and look forward to playing this
course many times this summer.
Seen it's better days
Lots of down trees (old rotten ones) still laying along the fairways. Fairways didn't appear to be watered or cared for other than mowing. Greens were in poor shape. A few were okay, but most had bald spots or some other type of blemishes. Just another old course that slowly dying. Sad to see because in it's hayday (20 years ago), it was highly thought of. A short course but the layout/design is interesting. Surrounded by an old neighborhood that is suffering the same fate. I just started learning this game, but I know enough to tell this course is dire need of a large cash infusion. I suppose for the low greens fees it's fine for a local like me to learn on.
Good greens. Fun, placement course. Good chipping/sand practice area.
This is a fun, placement type course. The greens are good. Need a little care, but for winter conditions, very playable. Nice sand in traps....unfortunately, I experienced that on several holes. Great value.
Once an Lpga stop, this course has good bones. I was there on a breezy Monday morning.
The course was quiet , well maintained and the carts were hot and ready to go. I had a great reflective round of golf the I very much enjoyed. Can't wait till Spring.
Great course and people.
I usually played evergreen. But now that I found this course for the price is way better. Play here twice a week well worth the 17 dollars I pay.
This course is getting better
Looks better and better each time we play. Greens are trying to come back from some serious burns. Fairways are full of leaves, and hard to keep up with even center tee shots, but are well defined from the rough. Tee boxes are in good shape.
The staff is the friendliest you will find around.
Fast Round
I was playing on my own and although I got held up by a twosome for 4 holes I still finished in about 3 hours. The course is suffering a little through the winter. It is a tight course to play making it challenging. The greens really need some work in some places, looks as though they have been vandalized and are bear in a few places. However I would play there again although the ground staff I encountered on the driving range are a little young and abrupt.
Pretty good condition for winter golf.
My son and I usually play this course regularly in the summer. I live in Beaumont TX and there isn't a decent course for 60 miles (although there are 7+ courses in the Bmt area, they are all terrible....sad really) so we always play in the Baytown/Houston/Lake Charles LA areas etc a lot. We hadn't played Newport in awhile and tried it in December 2012 and were pleasantly surprised at the condition for winter. Greens were in good shape with winter grass. Fairway grass was dormant but soft enough on most holes, there are a few holes like #9 that the fairways are hard packed all the time but it does have grass on most of it. Most of the sandtraps were wet at the time and packed due to rain. The sand is usually avg to good other times we have played. All in all for winter golf we were happy and will go back again soon.
AWESOME!
This is by far the best course I have ever played. Using the on-line T Time, saved me $140. I can easily state I will go back and I will schedule my T Time the same way.
This xourse is too tight for high handicappers. Every hole has out of bounds on both sides no room far any error.
I don't think I've played a tighter course in Tx. The OB stakes are just off the cart paths due to the homes being on the golf course. You better be a straight shot if you want to go low on this course and the greens were really patched with dead spots on almost every green. Its only worth a hot deal price and when went no one was really playing except for the hot deal tee time.
The course plays well.
The greens need attention. There are bare spots you have to putt through
This course was in bad condition. I will never play it ever again.
The greens were in bad shape.... There was not one green that was good. They should have given my money back.
The next day I went do the road to Red Wolf Club. This is where I should have went in the first place.
Great value for the price
Great value. With Golf Now,this is a great deal.
