Mill Run Golf Club - Championship Wheel/Grind Course

About
Nestled among the rolling hills surrounding Uxbridge, which is just 40 minutes from downtown Toronto, Mill Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf and also an 18-hole, executive course. The championship holes are divided into three distinct nines that are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Wheel/Grind Course is heavily forested with many elevation changes throughout. The back nine, the Grind, is Mill Run Golf Club's newest layout and it is also the shortest of the three. Although it is shorter in length, towering trees and doglegs incorporated into its layout demand accurate shot-making in order to do well.

Fair time at Mill Run
An ok time at Mill Run but not worth the drive for the value you get. The greens were not in great shape with ant hills, Ball marks , and other imperfections. Similarly to the tee boxes. Very chewed up. The cart paths were also like an off road experience with huge ruts and bumps causing the cart to bounce and toss contents. Lastly the 17th hole was under construction and closed and this was not communicated ahead of time. So we missed out on our full 18 holes.
I don’t think it’s worth and hour drive from toronto when better courses are available closer to the city
Mill Run
Friendly staff, excellent driving range, decent course layout for the day. Greens eere 9/10
Starter was very rude
Was very aggressive and would not listen to reason. Also suggested that we should ruin our round to by constantly laying up so we could speed up the pace of play despite us not being the problem and he refused to ask the slow group to speed up and only picked on our group.
Expected more
First of all, the staff was great. The Starter was a real gentleman with a warm and welcoming attitude.
I played the Wheel and the Grind set of 9s. First hole started off with a construction crew ( 5-6 guys ) doing work about 100 yards out on the fairway. This was early afternoon. The fairways were patchy missing chunks of grass, divots which were not filled in everywhere. You can always tell the effort that the Course maintenance management takes care of the course by looking at the bunkers. They were not edged and many of them had weeds or grass growing into them. Some of the greens had patches and disease. The Wheel had been recently aerated which I understand has to be done, but there was no forewarning about this and it’s not like the course discounted it’s fees because of it. The speed of the greens were slowed down considerably. On the other hand, when we were on the Grind the greens had not been aerated and were considerably faster. This threw off everybody in our group as to how to gauge green speed.
Finished the round in just over 5 hours. Too long. We started off as a foursome and went down to a threesome in the back nine. We had a twosome in front of us. We were always waiting for them to play even though there was no one in front of them. From what I could see they were good golfers. Suffice it to say there was no Marshall to address speed of play. I just didn’t understand how a foursome / threesome could be jammed behind a twosome. Frustrating!
The course layout is beautiful with a lot of mature trees. The layout also gives you pause to think as to how you want to play the hole, it’s not just get up to the tee box and fire away.
I played this course about three years ago and at the time it was in better shape and the experience was more positive. This place has great potential, but they need to sink some bucks into maintenance and hiring a Marshall.
Bang for the buck!
Good course. Staff makes the difference right now as course under-going serious development. Think Mill Run will be much better 3 years from now.
Disappointed
We have played this course a few times this year. We don’t think the rate is equal to the course conditions. Weeds noted on fairways, many of the greens in rough condition. I don’t think it was worth the price paid. The starter was very nice.
Mill Run Grind Course
Had a great time golfing here, the course is beginner friendly and very aesthetically appealing. Would come back 100%
Don’t worth the money
Course was in rough shape. Had temporary hole which was not disclosed when I booked. Went in for a burger after the round and staff don’t even acknowledge you. Would not recommend for the price they charge and service.
