Providence Golf Club
About
Providence Golf Club in Richmond has a rich and unique history. The original location along the Pocoshock Creek closed in 1985 but the property and an adjacent parcel of land were then bought by a new development company. The additional land was used for six new holes while the original property now has longer and more spacious holes. The golf course then had another redesign in 2002 that was overseen by Virginia native Lester George, who is known for designing the highest ranked golf course in the state, Kinloch Golf Club. Providence G.C. wanders through a beautiful landscape of towering trees and wetlands. George utilized these natural features to create a number of risk-reward opportunities throughout the course. The golf course finishes with a risk-reward hole that is heavily guarded by both bunkers and a creek.

Do everything you can to avoid the greenside bunker on the par-4 7th. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020
Best price in Richmond for a reason
The layout and play of the course is actually really decent. Mostly straightaway holes without too many difficult hazards. We played about 4 days after rain/sleet and the course was VERY wet. Most bunkers had 3-6 inches of standing water on one side of them. Many other bunkers were filled with leaves. The driving range was closed, even the mats and there's no chipping to the practice greens which led to us going into the first 4 holes completely cold. The staff, pro shop, and carts were all nice. Cart paths were quite rough through the hole course. I won't go back but if there was a week of decent weather and you were looking for a cheap round it might not be too bad. We paid $31 for a hot deal and it looked like they charged $63 for walk-ins.
Great layout and conditions
This is a fun course. Well maintained and the layout is great. Even in winter the conditions were good.
Nice condition
Overall the course was in good shape. Fairways and greens were good. Some areas around the greens were in rough shape with chunks missing out of the rough and tons of little plugs from aerating
Good fairways Poor greens
Paid $52 thru TeeOff to play Providence cuz our normal course Birkdale is in such bad condition and had heard that providence was in good shape overall. Boy was the info off base. The greens are in unputtable shape due to recent aeration AND the encroachment of crabgrass or large areas of no or dead grass. Since greens are where about half of a golfers strokes are taken, if they’re in such bad shape it really ruins the round. If I were to sell the course something that is not in it’s acceptable condition , they would surely want a discount or replacement. It should work both ways!
Aerified greens Full Price
I was charged $75 for unputtable greens, with the bunkers filled with the aerified plugs rendering them unplayable. EverY green was also surrounded by the plugs so if you were short you had to chip through 6 inches if plugs..
WILL NOT RETURN THIS YEAR...
SHAMEFUL.
Solid course
Played on a really nice Sunday day here with two other guys.
Overall the course was in pretty great shape. A couple of the greens were beat to death from people not fixing divots.
Course is pretty open and not many balls were lost today.
Would return for another round!
Great course
Course in really good shape. A lot of unrepaired ball marks on greens, but overall in great shape
Consistantly good
Course was in great shape, and for playing sunday morning the pace of play was fantastic will definitely play here again.
Overpriced
Overpriced mud pit with greens that look like a teenager"s forehead. Convenience is the only reason to play this course. Range closed, cart path only. erosion spots everywhere and the greens were stimping at about 6. Pace was excruciatingly slow until the very nice Ranger got things moving on the back 9. I feel bad for anyone who pays almost $70 for this course, worth about $45 normally but not worth $25 in the condition it was in. I fixed close to 100 ball marks, some about an inch deep.
Not again
Greens look like pubescent 14 year-old's face with all the divot marks. Sand traps are hard like a gravel pit. Fairways look good on the surface, but hard ground is underneath. Course layout makes for a confusing cart path direction at times. Did like the hole design, however.
Providence GC
