Providence Golf Club
About
Providence Golf Club in Richmond has a rich and unique history. The original location along the Pocoshock Creek closed in 1985 but the property and an adjacent parcel of land were then bought by a new development company. The additional land was used for six new holes while the original property now has longer and more spacious holes. The golf course then had another redesign in 2002 that was overseen by Virginia native Lester George, who is known for designing the highest ranked golf course in the state, Kinloch Golf Club. Providence G.C. wanders through a beautiful landscape of towering trees and wetlands. George utilized these natural features to create a number of risk-reward opportunities throughout the course. The golf course finishes with a risk-reward hole that is heavily guarded by both bunkers and a creek.

enjoyed this golf course
not my first time,,, always have a good time at providence,,,, a slow group in front of us on this day,,, no marshall...
Great Layout and Fun and challenging Course
This is a course that I will play at least 8-10 times a season. Really enjoy the diverse and challenging Layout the course has to offer. My only concern would be the 4 times I've played there has been no Marshall riding through the course. Though only reason this would benefit myself and others would be to help maintain a nice easy continued pace of play. Three out of the four time my group found ourselves having to wait several minutes to tee off, but also waiting for the party to ahead to exit the green. I understand it is a busy course, but just having the presence of a Marshal stops players from hitting more than one ball each hole as well as what I like to call lollygagging or Bojangling . Beside that I recommend playing this course to every golfer I meet. Fun Course!!!
My favorite course in richmond (public)
Love this course ,Par fives give the average golfer a great chance for a birdie. fairways the best in area, greens can be great or average based on weather
great value-decent course
great value for the money. - aside from the guy watering the greens, while we were trying to play, the course was in great shape and you can't beat the price we paid. overall very pleased, and highly recommend.
Normally we would recommend, but not this time.
Took us well over 5 hours to play this short course. Far too many groups out on the course. The greens, typically quite playable, had not been cut for some time and were very slow and unpredictable. We've had plenty of rain which may explain why the greens were as rough as they were. Bunkers were in unusually poor shape as well. Many bunkers washed out with several feet of standing water in the bunker. The course needs less play and more TLC.
Nice Layout
Overall course in fair to good condition. Greens were slow on front nine, faster on back nine.
challenging course
course was in good shape/pleasant staff/director of golf Mr Green very nice, cares about patrons
An overall great experience
The course was beautifully maintained for the middle of August. The greens were a little bumpy around the hole, but had true reads. The fairways were immaculate, rough was lush, carts were well juiced and even the hot dogs were a good size and flavorful. This course was a joy to play, a great value, and one worth revisiting.
Course in great condition, great value for Richmond.
Although the greens seemed to not all be mowed the same length making some greens slower than others I will definitely play again.
Great course!
Tee boxes could have used a little love. This is due to alot of play, but still good. Fairways were in awesome shape. Green rolled well condidering there were alot of divots from so much play and no one fixing them.
Best value in Richmond
The course is in all around good condition. Fairways are a little long but lush and the rough is consistent, no bare patches. Greens roll true and are consistent. Didn't find any traps but they looked well maintained. Staff is friendly and beverage cart visits are timely. Definitely worth the greens fee.
This course is a nice layout with different types of holes.
The people at Providence are very nice and want to ensure a great experience. The course was in very good shape, and played true. I recommend Providence Golf Club for a great overall golf experience.
Glad to see Providence on GolfNow!
It was a 95 degree day, so not much of a crowd on the course around noon. The course was in really good shape and the greens rolled well.
Soft and Scenic
This is a very scenic course, with lots of elevation changes and doglegs (some of them tricky if you don't know exactly where to leave it). It was very soft the day I played and hadn't been mowed in a bit so though grass was long everywhere - rough was tough, fairways had no roll at all and even long irons virtually plugged in the greens. When it drys out it will be more fun. It's not long, only 6,600 from the back tees and the greens are quite large with really defined areas to hit in. You can walk it, as I did, if you are so inclined. Probably not a great course for the beginner as there are quite a number of forced carries over marshland from the tees and in front of the greens on the par 5's. Would play it again.
Best Value in Richmond
From top to bottom, the course was in great shape. The greens and fairways were in amazing shape for the time of year (very green, no brown spots). The course is extremely playable and challenging for golfers of all levels.
A well maintained and fun course to play
Providence is always well groomed and green. The staff is friendly and the rates are fair (maybe slightly over-priced). The course itself offers an interesting and fun front nine with a good mix of short and long holes. The back nine, while still a lot of fun doesn't offer quite as much as the front. The holes are a bit more vanilla. Overall, though I do love this course and play it all the time. I'm always please with how well the grounds crew keeps things maintained. They always have water out on the course and also have a port-o-john between 5 and 6. There are some houses on a few holes but they do not come into play.
