General George V. Underwood, Jr. Golf Complex - Sunrise Course
About
Sunrise opened in April of 1995, bringing a more modern layout to the Underwood facility. Ken Dye (Painted Dunes) built the course as sort of a Scottish links/desert-style track with undulating fairways and a multitude of water hazards. Quite a bit of dirt was moved to sculpt the flat terrain.
On the front No. 5 stands out because it plays as a 465-yard par 4, but No. 9 is the most difficult because of its even greater length-a 587-yard par 5. Holes of note on the back are the 302-yard No. 11, which offers a great chance for birdie; another long par 4 in No. 13 (452 yards); and the mean 18th, a 441-yard dogleg right.
Getting there : Located off I-10 and Gateway. From I-10 east, take US Hwy. 54 north and exit Ellerthorpe. Turn right and drive down the road into the housing development, where you will eventually see the clubhouse.

This course needs lots of work to compete with other golf clubs in town.
Bad fairway with water and mud, The green are sometimes wet and the ruff grass around the green this too wet and the golf balls don't roll. They get stake in the mud
Fairways and greens need lots of work to compete with other golf clubs in the city.
The course is average for the money you pay or a little bit more.
Some greens are good and others need work.

Sunrise Golf Course
I recently played a round at this course, and unfortunately, it left a lot to be desired. The fairways were in rough shape—patchy grass, uneven lies, and far too many bare spots. It made what should have been a relaxing game more frustrating than enjoyable.
The greens were actually decent, rolling fairly true and maintained better than the rest of the course. They were the highlight of the round, though that’s not saying much.
Staff at the clubhouse and pro shop were just okay—cordial, but not particularly helpful or welcoming. On the other hand, the restaurant staff were a bright spot—super friendly and accommodating, which made grabbing a post-round meal a pleasant experience.
About what you'd expect
For a public, military course just off base, where the commander doesn't play golf, it's in OK shape. About what you'd expect for a government course that doesn't get enough funding. They do OK with what they have. As long as you know that going in, average is just fine for a non-luxury round.
Nice course
Nice course in decent shape. Could use some work on some of the greens but overall it was a nice course
This good for the price.
Course needs more work and water. Greens also need work.
Great layout, course condition a disaster
I’ve played this course twice in the past 60 days. The course layout is challenging and has a lot of potential but due to the course condition it’s absolutely borderline playable. Tee boxes are in horrible shape, good fairways on the par 4 & par 5’s are near impossible to come by. The greens are burning up, and it does not help that almost majority of the sprinkler heads and lines are broken or do not operate properly. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND the course be closed for major renovation, hire an experienced green keeper and also have a cart girl for goodness sake to add some amenities to the course while your playing. Come on Fort Bliss, if you’re gonna have this course at least maintain it. Soldiers & retirees deserve better.
Fun course to relax
Course is in good shape, for the price it’s worth it. Fun course to relax with great pace! Never over crowded.
Course in really bad shape
Course is in bad shape all over, greens, fairways, tees. This is a military public golf course, I think our soldiers deserve better.
Another round of golf.!
Course needs a little work..greens are pretty good!
