General George V. Underwood, Jr. Golf Complex - Sunrise Course
About
Sunrise opened in April of 1995, bringing a more modern layout to the Underwood facility. Ken Dye (Painted Dunes) built the course as sort of a Scottish links/desert-style track with undulating fairways and a multitude of water hazards. Quite a bit of dirt was moved to sculpt the flat terrain.
On the front No. 5 stands out because it plays as a 465-yard par 4, but No. 9 is the most difficult because of its even greater length-a 587-yard par 5. Holes of note on the back are the 302-yard No. 11, which offers a great chance for birdie; another long par 4 in No. 13 (452 yards); and the mean 18th, a 441-yard dogleg right.
Getting there : Located off I-10 and Gateway. From I-10 east, take US Hwy. 54 north and exit Ellerthorpe. Turn right and drive down the road into the housing development, where you will eventually see the clubhouse.

Worsening
Hadn't played here in a while.
Fairways are all yellow and full of weeds...
Greens are all yellow and full of sand a d some are all muddy...
Sprinklers are all broken down and water is seeping from them making some fairways muddy. Unable to maneuver even thru the cart path in some areas because they are full of water.
Course is in need of some mayor attention..
Won't b playing here anymore...
Needs work
Having been a member of this course in the past, it's shameful to see it in such poor condition. For whatever reason, the maintenance crews are unable to fix leaking sprinklers which are evidenced by the swamp-like conditions scattered throughout the corse. The greens are in fairly good condition. The facilities and staff are excellent.
Course was closed and took my money and gave zero help in trying to help me get reimbursed.
Greens
Greens are getting worst and worst.
Most Fairways are also muddy due to broken water lines.
One is daming fairways even more because one cannot avoid to drive thru them as some cart paths are also full of water.
Still in need of some repair
Although in better condition than the last time I played, still has many water leakage points and greens are damaged.
Course is confising to get around
Course can use better signage for getting around to all the holes very confusing even with the digital monitor on the cart. Also no cart girls 1 guy driving around occasionally.
Pleasantly surprised
I was surprised with the condition of the course considering the heat. The greens were in gray shape. The layout is a little confusing at times. It was a little bit difficult figuring out where to go for the next hole. I would definitely play it again next I’m in the area.
