About
Thankfully Fredericksburg offers this facility as a respite from incessant turista shopping along the main drag. While not overly fancy, this little Hill Country course gets the job done while the shoppers in the family spend their days in town.
The Jeffery D. Blume-designed track plays around 6,700 yards from the tips and includes plenty of trees and water hazards that get in the way.
You’ll notice the two par 5s on the front. No. 3 is the signature, playing 523 yards and forcing a shot over a creek, and another over a bluff. No. 5 is longer, a testy 578 yards from the back.
The most difficult rated hole is the No. 9, a 425-yard par 4, but the regulars complain more about the challenging 18th, an even longer par 4 that plays 450 yards from the tips.
Getting there : The course is just south of town on the west side of the highway.

Excellent Layout
Very good design and solid conditions. Could use some more sand in the bunkers, but hey, Covid :-)

Great Course, very friendly staff, scenic - just a great day.
Excellent public course with great natural surroundings
Course was in great shape, pace of play was super fast, course layout was also excellent. Course is not difficult, has plenty of room off the tee and the greens are not too demanding. But for a municipal course it was really quite a treat. Even saw several families of deer during my round, right there on the course. Definitely will play again next time I am in the area.
Will play again!
This was our first visit, but will not be our last. We enjoyed the overall layout of the course and had a wonderful time. Seeing wildlife on the course was a bonus. We didn't intend to golf on this mini-vacay, but we are so happy we did!
Awesome time at Lady Bird
Course was in good shape and we played in about 3:1/2 hours. They have done an excellent job of following the virus rules. We felt safe the entire time.
Great course!
Great value for an excellently maintained course. Even with packed tee sheet, our group played just at 4 hours. Our group travels to Hill Country twice a year and Lady Bird is a must play.
Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course is a Winner!
If you're in the area, play this wonderful golf course. Lush fairways (and rough!) , the greens rolled awesome and the staff was extremely friendly. With COVID-19 still active, they allowed 1 person per cart (but they let my brother and I share a cart). Also, the staff didn't put any pin flags on the entire course which was a little bothersome when chipping but the pins were almost all in the middle of every green and with the GPS on the carts, it made it a little easier. They also turned the cups upside down so your putts wouldn't go in the hole but no big deal! The layout is really fun with just enough water to make it sporty! Great place to play golf! A++
Nice Hill Country Gem
Wasn’t expecting much for a Muni but the layout was challenging and the greens/fairways were in good shape for March.
Winter golf and windy
Layout was fun and fairly challenging. Course was in decent shape. Fairways kind of dry but normal for this time time of year. Greens were soft. Several greens had small little grass tufts growing in them that made them bumpy. Sand was is good.
Really well designed muni
Great course and design for the money. Nice elevation changes and challenging greens. Some water hazards in play as well as well placed bunkers. Would recommend for any level player, except beginner.
Friendly Staff/ Awesome Course
This Course is alway's in Perfect condition. Greens are lightning Fast and in perfect condition. Staff was Super Friendly. Love this Course!
Hill Country Gem
This course has recently undergone a change of management and a $2M renovation. The course in great condition overall. The greens were rolling true. The fairways were good overall with a very rough spots that still need some work.
Overall this is a surprisingly tight challenging hill country course. Several holes off good risk reward drives or second shots. The views of the surrounding area are very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. After the round be sure to try their smash burger.
I will definitely play this course agin.
Great course
Love this course! Has some real hill country character and nice layout. A few tee boxes had deer milling about with a couple nice bucks!
Nice range and accessible putting and chipping areas.
The carts have GPS and music system. Regular players were very friendly and highly recommend the smashed burger in the Red Bird Grill.
Will definitley make it a point to play again!
