Scott Schreiner Municipal Golf Club
About
John Bredemus stopped off here in the 1920s to open up Kerrville’s first golf course. Originally private when it opened in 1923, the course was acquired by the city in the 1930s and the course remained public ever since.
Situated on gently rolling terrain, the course offers scenic views of the surrounding Texas hill country. R.D. Kizer and Joe Finger have had their hands in molding the layout, which features somewhat generous fairways and an interesting combination of mounded greens.
Bredemus designed the front nine, which is highlighted by the classic 592-yard par 5. This is a mean hole, with water cutting into the fairway twice and an elevated green that requires a perfect approach. The hole has character, with water along the right and an ominous-looking cliff framing the view. Another notable hole on the front is the dogleg-left No. 7, with trees dominating the left side.
The signature hole is No. 17, a 535-yard par 5. Water comes into play on the second shot and then again on the approach to the green, which is surrounded by water on three sides. A waterfall to the left of the green adds a pleasing aesthetic.
The back nine, which opened in 1977, is more forgiving than the front. The best hole is the tough, par 5 No. 17. If you survive the tee shot, water comes into play on both the second and third shots. The last shot is particularly pleasing because of the waterfall on the left side of the green.
Getting there : From I-10 west, take Hwy. 16 south and turn left on Country Club Dr.

First Time to play Schreiner
4 Stars overall. Great Pace - just challenging enough to be fun. Course had some rough spots on the greens but good overall. We got confused on the direction and could have used some signage at 15 to 16. Would play again. Our only beef was the man behind the desk in the Pro Shop was cold and rude to both of us. Treated us like we were a nuisance. We are from Horseshoe Bay and are used to excellent service and employees. Hope he is not there the next time we play!
Great muni course
My wife and I really like this course and play it every week.
FANTASTIC COURSE
First time playing this course and will not be my last. It’s definitely a joy to play in on well maintained grass in south Texas for n June. Course conditions were excellent.
I only wish there were more yardage markers on the course. No GPS on the carts.
Fun track!
Course is in really nice shape. Greens have some minor issues but did not effect play. Staff are friendly. Well stocked pro shop. May be one of my favorite courses not my home course.
Great course, challenging lies.
The greens have only marginal issues. Some bare spots around the edges. They are FAST. I played on Sunday with a 11:10 tee off and was done in 3:10.
Hard course
Course is not easy but fun to play.
Staff has come a long way.
I recommend this golf course.
The carts are awesome! They don’t beep when you reverse love that.
Hidden gem
Greens rolled great, fairways and tee boxes in good shape. Tha only problem I saw, greens around me the fringe needed work
Great condition for this time of year
Greens rolled true and took time to read the breaks. Multiple breaks on most putts.
This course has great conditions
Staff was great, and so was the pace. I enjoy the course layout and the views! Recommend this course for your next golf outing!
