Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Golf Club
About
Thankfully Fredericksburg offers this facility as a respite from incessant turista shopping along the main drag. While not overly fancy, this little Hill Country course gets the job done while the shoppers in the family spend their days in town.
The Jeffery D. Blume-designed track plays around 6,700 yards from the tips and includes plenty of trees and water hazards that get in the way.
You’ll notice the two par 5s on the front. No. 3 is the signature, playing 523 yards and forcing a shot over a creek, and another over a bluff. No. 5 is longer, a testy 578 yards from the back.
The most difficult rated hole is the No. 9, a 425-yard par 4, but the regulars complain more about the challenging 18th, an even longer par 4 that plays 450 yards from the tips.
Getting there : The course is just south of town on the west side of the highway.

An Excellent Day of Texas Hill Country Golf
Enjoyed a great day of golf with my wife at this very well maintained course in Fredericksburg. We were visiting from Saskatchewan, Canada and were given a recommendation to try this course. We were not disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience. From the Golf Now on-line reservation, the beautiful quick drive from Comfort where we were staying to the round of challenging and fun golf on the very well maintained course. The greens were consistent and true which made the round very pleasurable. The lunch we enjoyed at your club restaurant was excellent with exceptional service. Overall it was an awesome time for us. With a new grandson here in Texas I know we will be making more trips to the Hill Country and we will certainly make Lady Bird Golf Course part of our itinerary. Thanks to all your staff (and club pro-Tony? who greeted us) for making this a most memorable golf experience for us.

Fun and interesting course
This is a fun and interesting hill country golf course which is a challenge for all skill levels. My wife and I played this course for the first time while I had some very challenging carries from the blue tees. She had very generous front tee locations that made her smile. The front nine is winding through the very mature live oak trees and rolling hills while the back nine is more open pasture land with well placed water features and the neighboring black Angus as some what disinterested gallery.
Golf in Fredricksburg, Tx
Really enjoyed the course and the round of golf. Very nice golf course. Is a public course, but in a beautiful setting. Played as a twosome and got around in about 3 1/2 hours. Really enjoyed the course. If ever in the Fredricksburg area, would certainly try to play here
Suddenly overpriced
I have visited Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in my rv for at least 15 years now and love to play a round or two of golf at the golf course. This year I was blown away at the senior golf rates. This would imit my ability to enjoy more than 1 round of golf. Thank goodness Golf Now gave me the chance to play at great prices. This is a nice golf course and I do recommend it, but the price needs to return to reality. Times are tough and golf is not a necessity!
Course
With the redesign of the greens with the new sand traps it made the course more interesting than in the past. We enjoyed it.
This is a fun course
This course is in great shape and it has some really nice holes. The staff were just fantastic and I can't wait to get back out there.
Great course
Beautiful place with great views. Great condition.
better than ever
excellent course. lots of variety. hills trees water and well kept sand. will use every club in your bag. slightly pricey or I would play it more often.
Nice course
Course is worth the trip. Great for a municipal course. Pace of play was fast even on a weekend.
Great Course
This course is unlike the average courses in the hill country. Had a great time and will here again!!
Great Hill Country Experience
We booked through Golf Now. The staff was very cordial in getting us checked in and the facilities are modern, clean, and the Pro Shop is well stocked. The course was well manicured and in great shape, especially considering the extreme drought we are experiencing. The greens were fast which was a real treat to those of us used to a slower roll. If you live in Austin, San Antonio, or surrounding Hill Country, this is a great day trip, especially with adding lunch or dinner in Fredericksburg. We'll definitely do it again!
Texas Hill Country Golf
The design of this course adds to the challenge. The addition of numerous sand bunkers and high grass areas are strategically placed to protect the greens. The slope on some of the fairways is brutal but fun. The course is very well maintained and a in good shape.
Good course
The fairways and greens were in good to excellent shape. The pace of play was decent - considering it was a holiday weekend. We finished our play in a touch over 4 hours. In general, I really enjoyed the course. It's got a few tricky holes in the hills where a round under your belt would help - but not too complicated otherwise. The course is scenic and fun. I did play this course once many years ago when it was a nine hole course; the experience today is completely different. Very well run - I would recommend.
Great course
Played this on a Saturday morning. Teed off at 8am and was done a little after noon. Great course! Really great condition. The epitome of Hill Country golf. I was pleasantly surprised by the conditions and the challenge. The front nine is much more difficult than the back nine. Seemed like every green was elevated. Love this course.
Very interesting course
With the new renovations we really like the layout. An intermediate golfer can play, no problem. The greens were sanded when we played so could not really tell a lot about the greens.
Better than I expected, fun course.
Course was in good condition. Greens looked like they needed just a small bit of work but still good condition and fast. Didn't see the bev cart gal till the 16th hole and her body language suggested she really didn't want to work. Outside of that, the pro shop staff was very friendly and the snacks and drinks were great. Warm welcome when I arrived and was educated on hole location by the pro shop staff since it was my first time playing the course. I would recommend and also play this course again.
Renovations to the course are challenging
First time to play since course shut-down. They've made the course considerably more challenging with deep bunkers and elevations. Greens were in pitiful shape. A course I use to enjoy, I probably won't return.
LBJ has plenty of bite
This course will test all clubs in the bag. Greens were discolored due to harsh winter but rolled true.
Fairways were a little thin. Bunkers were deep with thick sand & difficult to get out of. Playing in winds of 25-30 mph made for tough round. Plenty of trees to snag your ball with uphill & downhill shots. Bring your game or you will pay.
You should come back as the course is in superlative order. Try getting a lesson from the staff or play from the forward tees to make the course, more to your caliber of play. Hope you come back...
