Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Golf Club
About
Thankfully Fredericksburg offers this facility as a respite from incessant turista shopping along the main drag. While not overly fancy, this little Hill Country course gets the job done while the shoppers in the family spend their days in town.
The Jeffery D. Blume-designed track plays around 6,700 yards from the tips and includes plenty of trees and water hazards that get in the way.
You’ll notice the two par 5s on the front. No. 3 is the signature, playing 523 yards and forcing a shot over a creek, and another over a bluff. No. 5 is longer, a testy 578 yards from the back.
The most difficult rated hole is the No. 9, a 425-yard par 4, but the regulars complain more about the challenging 18th, an even longer par 4 that plays 450 yards from the tips.
Getting there : The course is just south of town on the west side of the highway.

Great Course
Course is in good shape.Pace of play was good.Only complaint is greens were hard and the balls wouldn't stick.Should probably get better later this year.Other than that I recommend the course.
A great day of golf
We had a 12:50 tee time but were able to start early.
The tee boxes were well marked and in good condition,. Having many to choose from made it east to adjust to tee boxes similar to our home course.
Fairways were fine, although it would be very beneficial to have more visible 200, 150 and 100 yard markers. We struggled all 18 holes with distances to the green. Also this course is not recognized by some golf apps for downloading.
The greens were fast and had some elevation and or slope to them. Putting was at a premium most times.
Sand traps were plentiful and difficult to hit out of because the sand was soft, and frequently the sand traps were bunker like.
We played in about 4 -4 1/2 hours. The back nine was slower and we had frequent waits.
I would certainly recommend this course to anyone staying in the Fredericksburg area as a high value course,
fun course
It was a great day , nice -fair course and the weather was ideal .
Great Golfing Day
My wife and I played Lady Bird yesterday and had a great time! The course is in nice shape and we hadn't played here since they closed down for renos.
Some nice changes and they fiix a couple of we thought were hinkey holes.
We would reverse the nines, as we found the front more challenging and picturesque and would like to have saved it for last. Thanks Golf Now. Nice outing.

The Golf Bum
redid the course last year and it is great
need better yardage markers and a course layout sheet
Good layout with eye pleasing views.
My favorite course so far in the Hill Country. Very good condition with fast greens. Sand traps are fair but difficult since they are strategically located. Traps have soft sand and well maintained. The Course is not included in Golf Logic or Garmin GPS programs. Daily green fees are to expensive for out of County Golfers. Suggest using the Hot Deals option. Yardage markers are hard to find. Overall experience was very satisfying.
Great course with new greens and fairways.
Course in top shape and fun for all. Also beautiful open hill country views. Fun place for couples or guys.
No birds on Lady Bird.
i didn't get any birdies on lady bird but really enjoyed the course. Greens were fast and true. Staff was really friendly, even if the marshal was retired army and a packer fan (i'm retired marine, bears fan).
Super course for all skill levels
Super fast greens that are incredible. Course has holes you can attack and some that you hope to survive. Very nice layout. Will return regularly.
Highly recommended !!!!!!!
This golf course is in excellent shape. Most difficult part of this course were the greens, they were very fast and hard to read.we had a great time. Highly recommended course .. Thanks to all the staff at lady bird Johnson .
Great day of golf
First time back to play since the renovations and I really enjoyed the course. Will definitely be back. A very good value in a great hill country setting.
it was great pace. greens were fast.
i have played this course using golfnow three times this year. it is about 80 miles from my house . my wife goes shopping while i play golf. win, win situation.
this course has a lot of elevated greens.
My boy played the black tees , I played the blue, there was a few holes it was hard to find the back tee's . Some of the holes you were not sure which flag was your hole . Need better course mapping. Good distant markers. Greens were hard & fast in real good shape, hard to hold, putted good. Fun course to ride to hard to walk.
Enjoyed playing it
They took out my favorite little par 3, my only complaint!
Great value for everyone
Played mid-morning on Saturday and while course was busy, pace of play was good. Only waited on 1 tee box for about 3 to 5 minutes. Front 9 is very entertaining with many elevation changes and fast greens. This is a course I could play on a daily basis and not get tired or bored. The $2 million dollar renovation was a huge success in my book. Can't wait to go back for another round and I will for sure.
Great renovation
This was our first time to play here since they reopened last fall after a long shutdown and renovation. The new holes are great, the changes are very nice. This has always been one of my favorite Hill Country courses, first played here in 1995.
Tricky Greens
This is a great hill country track. Not super long in yardage, but the layout will test your skills. Particularly your ability to read its relatively new greens. Fairways are still a bit hard and bumpy, but this course will be a gem with a few more years of maturity. Great staff and patrons.
