Coulda-Woulda-Shoulda
Played on a great 82 degree early fall day with three unknowns filling out the foursome. I loved the elevation changes and the layout but a couple things really brought the potential down-
1- I dont know the 'why', but the fairways seemed to have just been poorly mown with very long grass that was not cleanly cut. It looks like they had shutdown and let the fairways grown, then cut them with gobs of grass clusters and rough fairways as the blades of the mowers were not sharp or the tractor was going VERY fast....just really really bad.
2- We had a maintenance worker staying with us from hole to hole, driving his blower over the fairways while we're hitting our drivers (very brave) to disperse the clobs of fairway mown grass. Having him for a hole is not a problem, but he stayed with us for 4 holes, 5-8 and it does become irritating listening to that blower and having to hope you dont send him to his maker with one well placed Srixon.
Due to these two annoyances, I packed it in after 9, not even asking for a raincheck as I doubt I'll be back. I hope I caught it just on a bad day/situation and you're experience will be better as the green complexes are daunting and the course is visually stunning. Would love to play it when its golfer ready....
Fun Labor Day
I decided at the last minute to play Mountain Branch and booked as a single. Two younger golfers joined me and we had an enjoyable round.
Really decent course
Everyone was really friendly and helpful. Fairways and greens were really nice but the tee boxes need a lot of help. Overall would play again, but would like to see the tee boxes get some help.
Course is Beat Up
Tee boxes are mud holes, same with some of the fairways. we've had a lot.of rain, but that isn't the whole cause. Some of the fairways and tee boxes just don't have any grass on them, amd IMO.the course is overplayed. they're constantly having events there so it's hard to get tee times, The people there are very friendly, but for the price I expect better course conditions . you can play a dozen nearby courses in better shape for 60% of the price.
Exceptional
This was my first time playing this course and all I can say is “Wow” what a challenging yet fair course.
Never disappoints
Absolutely love this course. I could play it everyday! Challenging and great conditions.
Course is in great shape!
The fairways and greens are in great shape. Later in the season it may be different, it's currently in the best shape that I've ever seen.
Hidden Gem of Maryland
I so enjoyed playing here. The course was in great condition. It's a challenging course but fair. It's every bit as good as Maryland National, Worthington Manor and other great Maryland courses at a much more affordable price.
Great condition
Was up visiting from Hilton Head and played this little gem I haven’t seen in years. It was in great shape, nice employees and couldn’t have been happier about the golf course. Hats off to staff at Mountain Branch

Fun course, extremely slow round, questionable clientele
The course itself at Mountain Branch is awesome. It's a really fun layout, and the whole place was in great shape when we played. The staff was cool, no complaints there. But, the great course conditions felt wasted because of the pace of play. We were out there for a little over five hours, which is just a brutal wait when there's nobody in front of the group ahead of you. The day felt more like waiting in line than playing golf.
To top it all off, things got a little weird on one of the many tee boxes we had to wait at. The two singles we were paired with (who had just met) fired up a bowl and passed it between them. It was a bizarre scene, and I'm pretty sure the secondhand smoke sent my next few shots into another dimension. So yeah, between the snail's pace and the surprise smoke-out, we won't be rushing back, which is a shame because it's a great track.
Great course for the money
Course in good shape. Greens rolled good, not too fast and not too slow. Fairways in great condition. Tee boxes were good but a few holes had the tee markers in weird spots that weren’t level. Rough was brutal, not US Open rough but it was thick & high. One of my foursome lost two balls barely out of the fairway. It was also cart path only which I don’t think was necessary, course was not wet.
Best golf course ever played
On 5/23/25 I played mountain branch golf course in Maryland. Although, the pace of play was a little slow due to cart path only, due to rain days before, I can honestly state, this was the best golf course I’ve ever played. Beautiful golf course!!!! And a fair challenge.
Great course friendly staff!
My son and I played this course for the first time. We throughly enjoyed the round. The weather was not great due to a lot of rain this week so it was cart path only but despite that the course was in great condition and we had a great time. The golf carts had the most comfortable seats I have ever sat on for a golf cart. The afternoon weekday rate was under $50 which made it a great value for this level of a course. The staff was friendly and we were paired up with another father and son that were familiar with the course and that made it even more enjoyable. I would recommend this course to my golfing friends.
Great course and value for money
The course was in great condition and is great value for money. Scenic and has some challenging holes. The round took five and a half hours and there were no rangers that attempted to approve the pace
