Mountain Branch Golf Course

I'm going to let the rather poor condition of tee boxes go since I'm sure there's been a lot of play by the end of the summer, and after a long hot/dry spell that's pretty much what you'd expect. Otherwise conditions were good even with slower than average greens left to grow longer to protect them.

But the course layout is OUTSTANDING, particularly for a hilly course which nonetheless keeps the elevation changes within reason. And every whole is fair to the player, providing reasonable tee shot landing areas, and approach shots, while requiring you to control your ball. But if you don't hit it straight, expect to lose A LOT of balls into natural areas. (Fortunately, didn't impact me.)

For my money, it's a much more pleasant golfing experience than the nearby Pete Dye design. And less money with just as much challenge for an average golfer.

The course was in excellent condition and pace of play was outstanding, probaly because it was a bit warm!

Mountain Brain is a great course, with a lot to offer. This is my second time playing. The tee boxes were a mess on most of the front nine. But the course overall was in my opinion good condition for the time of year. I really enjoy the friendly staff and ease of getting on the course. I highly recommend visiting this hidden gem!

The pace of play on this particular day was DREADFUL- we waiting at every hole while the group of men took over 12 shots and practice swings throughout the round. Which then of course meant a 5.5 hour round and angry players stacked up behind us.

Course conditions have slipped like that had in past years. Thought they were onto a new method that was maintaining peak condition all months of the years. Some tee boxes were essentially dirt and many fairways scorched. Not as bad as I’ve ever seen it, but I was sad to see the conditions regressed. Still very playable and greens were still solid.

Fun course! Very hilly! Great conditions despite the rain the day before which made it a cart path only round. Close to I95. Will play again next time in the area.

Course was in the best shape I’ve seen it in over 5 years. In years past they would lose the tee boxes and some greens to heat stress and fungus, not so this year. Would be an overall excellent rating if even just a few spots on the range were open to allow some warm up time…hard to start cold on first tee and expect a solid round.

The gentleman that checked us in was very friendly and made us feel welcome. You would be surprised how some courses don’t have people to portray a welcoming smile and a kind word. That goes a long way. We checked in really easy and the starter gave us clear and concise instructions and we headed to the first tee. The course was in great shape and the greens rolled true. It was my birthday and needless to say, I enjoyed it immensely on the course. Love this course and will definitely be back again and will be sure to tell all of my friends about the pleasant experience I had. Thank you Mountain Branch! We will be back!!!!
