Well kept course
This course was in very good shape. Greens were true, bunkers properly filled and groomed. GPS on carts were accurate. Staff was Iowa nice.
Back nice was quite scenic and fun to play. Greens are not flat yet are challenging but overall fair. Certain pin placements need to be factored on approach shots and chips.
Have not played here in over 10 years and it was worth the round. Will be back - likely this summer.
Absolutely stunning course
I was blown away by this superb course. It has a tremendous layout with huge elevation changes, wild bunkering and large undulating greens. My last season round did not feel like that as the conditions were excellent.
I would have loved to have played the abandoned holes along the river, but flooding doomed them several years ago.
First Timer
The overall course was great. Its beautiful and a great layout. The greens were horrible. Sand and arriated.
Awesome course and layout - ranger horrible
This is an amazing course, fairways were perfect, greens fast and true. I will play this course everything I come back to visit family in the area. However, the ranger was a piece of work with an attitude. I should pay $90 on a holiday weekend to be berated and talked down to for being 4 minutes behind on the 9th hole. No one was ever waiting on us but he said we were backing everyone up. Told us to keep up with group in front of us, but there wasn’t a group from the time we tee’d off. They had to be 3 holes ahead of us. Just absolutely horrible and threw everyone’s game off for a few holes. I told the guy in the pro shop and he made excuses for the ranger and said he gets that way, but you should absolutely address this as he should not be working here if that’s the attitude he takes with everyone.
A TRUE BUCKET LIST COURSE
Very nice resort and golf course. We hadn't played here since they changed the routing of four holes. That change worked out very well. The front nine is a nice layout but the back nine is exceptional. Don't miss a chance to play this gem.
Diamond in the Rough
What a treat it was to play this course. This course is a gotta be the top 1 or 2 public course in Iowa. The course was in amazing shape especially with all the rain they have had lately. Greens were in perfect shape, soft but fast. Fairways were great and the rough was thick. Front nice is really nice layout couple blind tee shots. Once you get to the back it is really a treat. Par 11th 500 yards and goes straight UP HILL. From there on its up and downhill with some great views. Each side has a drive able par 4 risk reward style. I really enjoy that in a course. I was very impressed with everything expect for the entrance, things are a bit confusing and the pro shop is hidden. Beside that this place is top notch. Definitely a must play,.
GREAT PLACE TO STAY AND PLAY
The staff at the entire complex was great!! We spent the week-end and had a great time at the course and casino.
One of the best in Iowa
One of my favorite courses in Iowa. I've played here probably 20 times and never had a bad experience.
With big and complex greens, keeping the ball on the same tier as the hole is important with approach shots. The fairways are friendly, but the length and wind still makes it challenging.
There are five sets of tees. Both nines are fantastic, but the front is certainly easier. The back nine is more entertaining, and you'll enjoy some great views. With twilight rate and seeing the sunset on the back, it's really a great scene.
The practice facility is the best I've seen in the state. I walked this course some in college, and it is a beatdown to say the least. Unless you're in fantastic shape and are a great player, get a cart. The only complaint I've ever had is the GPS system in the carts sometimes don't work. But there are a ton of yardages to front, middle and back of the green in the fairway, and it's hard to nitpick that. The staff in all areas is very professional and helpful.
The flooding in 2008 caused a few of the holes on the front to be redone, which is unfortunate since they were outstanding. However, the new ones are great too.
I've played most (not all) of the top courses in Eastern and Central Iowa. Blue Top Ridge is in my top three. Bringing a group and going to the casino after is also a great idea.
Built to be tournament tough
The day I arrived at the RIverside Casino & Golf Resort, there were dozens of college golfers finishing their day on Blue Top Ridge. Many trudged off the course looking spent. Walking 36 holes on such a hilly course that plays super challenging wears out even the youngest and strongest golfers. Blue Top Ridge, located roughly 15 minutes south of Iowa City and the University of Iowa, was built to be tournament-tough. It's got big bones with ample space for corporate hospitality tents and parking. Don't be surprised if you see it hosting a tournament on TV someday. The front nine is solid, but it's the back nine that really shines, climbing to high ridges in several spots. No par comes easy, especially on the longest hole in Iowa, the 665-yard 16th.
Course in poor shape
Course was in very poor shape. Most of the holes looked as if the hole locations haven't been moved in over a week. A ton of cleat marks to deal with on every putt. Plus the bunkers were the worst I've seen bunkers in a long time. Most of them had no sand and was like hitting off a hard pan.
I would not recommend playing this course to anyone the remainder of 2014.
Always a pleasure, beautiful course in nice condition
Challenging well conditioned course with lots of creative shot opportunities. Big course depending on which tee markers, but lots of variety with no two holes or shots the same.
