Beautiful and playable
Love this course. The holes are challenging and not punitive. Conditions are very good. Greens are smooth and fast.
Tough Greens
Courses in great shape greens are very difficult always but in good shape.
played holes 1-9 twice
got a good deal since they were aerating the back 9 holes. played the front nine twice. hole 9 is very challenging.
Had to play back9 twice
I decided to come here for my birthday. And once I get there and finally pay, then they tell us the front 9 is closed, which is the better 9, and that we have to play the back 9 twice, which creates a backed up big problem on that course. And very, very slow and had I known, I wouldn't have gone there because the back 9 is nowhere near as nice as the front 9. So if you're planning a trip here, make sure that they have front and back open because you don't want to play the back nine twice
Needs a few improvements
1) Bugs on course every time your cart stopped moving were in your face and made entire day not enjoyable
2) Cart paths were in need of A LOT of repair as I had read in previous reviews. Have to drive very slow.
3) Clubhouse staff average friendliness
4) No drinking water on course
5) Not 1 potty anywhere out on course
6) No sand in 90 pct of sand traps. Didn’t particularly care. Cosmetic. Just cheapens look of course which is a nice layout.
7) No ballwashers
I would not go back to this course with these conditions. Would not recommend.
Pros & Cons
It's been a couple of years since I played Richland--it's over an hour drive for me, however played it this morning. Let me start with the Cons. As mentioned in other reviews, the cart paths need a lot of work as there are huge potholes all around the course. The bunkers are in need of repair; however there are signs of a local rule to take free relief in the bunkers. Now, the Pros. The staff was very welcoming from the cart guy to the pro shop attendant. The fairways had been aerated with lines, but caused no issues and overall the course was very green and lush. The course layout is interesting with no two holes the same. Hole #9 is a challenging design and one of those holes you either do well or really badly! Now, I have mixed emotions with the greens. The good news is they are in great shape--smooth, manicured, and in excellent condition. However, they are "diabolical" to put it mildly. They are FAST, FAST, FAST! And, the approach shots will not stick and will roll off the side or back. The greens are also extremely ungulated, which challenges your green reading ability. The Senior rate in the Tee Time Pass was $45, as opposed to the $65 rack rate. Richland is definitely worth a try if you've never played it, but be forewarned of the "dangers that lurk." .
Good value
I’ve played Richland many times. Staff has always been friendly. I think it’s a very good test of Golf. The greens are usually fast the fairways and rough in good shapethe bunkers and the cart paths need work. All in all good bang for the buck. I will continue to play here and support the course.
Not Worth It
Paid $80 for round on a Saturday. Course was in terrible shape . Dandelions higher than your ankles, Most traps had no sand. Not much difference between fairway and rough. Pace of play was awful. Had a “4 some” in front of us , 2 golfers and 2 passengers with a baby. Finally just passed them since they wouldnt let us play through. What happened to rangers on the course?? Will not return.
Great Course
2nd time playing there. 1st group off at 7:30. Greens were fast. A must play when in Western Maryland!
Tour Quality Greens!
The GREENS! Tour quality….fast, smooth, compact. The Boss Ed asked me, how would you know they’re tour quality. Have you played on the tour? Well I’ve played Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, Spyglass, TPC Avenel, TPC Myrtle. And your greens were as good or even better. - JOHN
Fun Course with some nice challenges
This is a great course with some great hole layouts offering some nice challenges (mostly around length and challenging greens).
This course may seem a bit "out there" for a location from some users, but worth the trip.
Bunkers need some work. They need water stations on the course. They need ball washers on every hole. They don't have any.
Greens are fast, true rolls and challenging.
Honor Tee Times
We had a 4:00 tee time and didn't tee off until 4:20 because there was no one monitoring tee times. I've played here many times and this is the first time experiencing anything like that, but please do better.
Cart Path Only
Some holes were a slight bit wet, the Cart Path Only requirement was a catastrophe! Many of the cart paths are very deteriorated, so we utilized the rough on about half the holes. The greens were very good for this time of the year, but the course (and especially the cart paths) need some attention.
Richland = Good but could be much better
Played 18 today in 5 hours today, waiting after every shot, each hole. We were glad to be out so not concerned being cart path only; however, the cart path on the entire course is horrible. Pot holes, or huge gaps making it bumpy to say the least. The fairways were nice, bunkers have always been hit or miss here regardless the season, some are always unplayable and oddly enough others look great. The greens were phenomenal and fast, by far the best aspect all day. I would be back again for sure but it’s kinda sad they after years of neglect they can’t repave the cart path. They do quite well for themselves I’m sure.
Dissatisfied
place is constantly overbooked and overpriced, drinks and food at the turn included
The sand traps need a lot of work , so we just took a free drop. I guess that has a lot to do with the time of year.
Winter Golf
When the Price is right it is a great value, Greens are fast. Carts are rough. Range is rough. Bunkers are surprisingly good. The inside is rough.
