Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Great Value
Bought for $20 because they had just aerated greens. Course was in excellent condition and was well worth $20 even with the aerated greens. Will definitely be back to this course. One of the best course conditions I saw all summer.
Always a Solid Choice
I have played Riverside a few times and each time I ask myself why I always forget about how nice Riverside is. Tee to green is always well kept. Tee boxes are in great repair, the fairways are carpet and the bunkers are deep fluffy sand. There is some water in play on a few holes and if you don’t play with someone that has played there before then you better download a GPS app, cause there are holes that you have no clue how they play.
What makes this course tough? Water, many doglegs with blind shots, fairway bunkers everywhere, forced carries, rolling fairways and there are some extremely small and tight greens.
Speaking of the greens. They were punched on Tuesday 7/16/19 so they are freshly recovering. They lowered their rates to accommodate for that and for $20 you can get out during the week right now. I normally would never recommend a freshly punched course but for $20, the rest of the course makes it worth it. Any to be completely honest, they filled the holes and they rolled slow but not overly bumpy. I think by the end of next week they will fill in a little and by the end of July might be smooth. I have played here before the greens were punched and they roll fast and true.
It is more of a links style course with very little protection, but the greens are not cut into the fairway, but you can see the entire front 9 from just about every hole. The back is in the trees and a little more hidden.
I like to walk and there is fresh, cold water every 2-3 holes and we saw the cart lady 3 times in our 3 and ½ hour round.
As you can tell the pace of play (at least early in the am) was spectacular. There were 2 pairs in front of us and a 4 some behind us and nobody of any of those groups every waited. 3.5 means that your done before it turns triple digits which makes it some much nicer.
Great little course right off the highway and always well kept. Wait a week or 2 if you need smooth greens or catch a discount right now for the course experience and just deal with the greens as another form of challenge.
Course in great shape. Amazing value
Best course I’ve played below $50, and it was only $25.
Poor communication
As a single I was told the course was wide open. Only to find out that there was a group of 30 that had just gone out in front of me. Pace of play was miserable. After 4 hours and only 9 holes, I left.
I should Have been told by the clubhouse and been given the option to start on #10.
I wasted 9 holes.
Not happy.
Great spot for beginners!
The course was a good value and very well taken care of. It was link style with minimal trees and forgiving fairways. Overall a great place to golf!
Fun To Play
This is a fun course to play. The course is generally in good shape, greens are pretty fast, there is sand, water-but the course is playable for all players if you play smart and can control your shot direction. I will play this course again. Also, staff is very friendly.
Good to go playing
Excellent maintenances and friendly
Staff and wonderful cart lady..
Excellent fairways and greens
The rain in Texas has been fantastic for the course as it’s in the best condition of any local course. Greens are soft. Price is great especially twilight for $20
Good fit
Good layout. Gorgeous day to play. Wind was at yr back on the front nine for the most part. Had a couple of pars. Back was tough..cause of the wind..but overall the pace of play was good..got it all in under 4 hours. Thanks to heavy credit from some previous rain outs got to play it for 6 dollars.
Pathetic
Don’t double up singles like it’s the end of the world and then allow five hour rounds. My handicap went down so that’s not the complaint but the worst rudest Starter I’ve ever dealt with means I will never ever come back and as of last night all my golf buddies now know this course will not be on our list to play at all.
Riverside golf
Well groomed and challenging course with great staff
First Time at Riverside
Good Value. Nice layout with yardage clearly marked. Only small concern is how close the range is to some of the holes on the back nine. Definitely will be back.
Tough track
Course in good shape as spring arrives. Back 9 greens great and front close...Traps a challenge with wet, heavy sand and hard to avoid given the frequency..White tee's a challenge for seniors even with lower handicap.
Very good value, especially if looking for a fair, challenging round of golf..
Not a good course really
Played here about 10 times the past 8 years course has gotten worse right now everything is still dead very bald tight lies greens are OK but just a meh municipal type course wouldn’t spend more than $20 here
