Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

The course was is great shape, especially the greens. .
The course played difficult, it was windy and if you were above the hole, the putts were very fast.
Nice Trek
Even with the south wind I enjoy playing here. Pretty much every hole has something to challenge your game.
Course conditions were fine - it's been dry this summer so the fairways are hard and fast. #6 is the toughest for my game - just not long enough to get into position for a good shot into the green. I most enjoy the 10-11-12 group of holes with a couple of doglegs and a good par-5.
There is water that comes into play - just pay attention and play carefully.
We did get behind a slow 4-some that the marshal was trying to move along.
Good challenging shots
Front 9 holes are open somewhat like a links course but the back 9 holes has lots of water hazards.
Pass
Too many people. Tee times way too close together. Course is trying to make money I understand but it stinks to be the guy playing on a Thursday and it looks like a Saturday. Or Sunday.
Pace of play
It took 5 hours for a twosome to play on a Wednesday morning for a 9:38 am tee time. Every stroke that was taken we had to wait on the person in front of us. The cart girl even mentioned how slow the pace of play was. Overall the pace of play ruined my game that day. I was extremely disappointed as I was looking forward to playing this course again. Wouldn’t recommend anyone to play here ever unless course management is highly improved.
good Value
couple areas need a little work but overall a nice track. some tough holes but overall playable for the mid handicapper...
Great course
Bring extra balls. There is no mercy on a few holes. Greens are the size of postage stamps. Fun stuff.
Awful
Very disappointed with the dry yellowing conditions. Greens were very slow and some disease. Overall the course has gone terribly downhill from its glory days. Wouldn't waste my money.
Fun course but
The course was fun. Pace of play was surprisingly fast. The greens were bad they still haven’t recovered from the last time they were punched. Overall I really liked the course and will definitely play again.
this course is very challenging
I love the par 5's.they will test your skill level.Very good layout.the staff is very friendly.
Good course
A little bit harder for beginners, however couurse condition was good enough
Great Value
Bought for $20 because they had just aerated greens. Course was in excellent condition and was well worth $20 even with the aerated greens. Will definitely be back to this course. One of the best course conditions I saw all summer.
Always a Solid Choice
I have played Riverside a few times and each time I ask myself why I always forget about how nice Riverside is. Tee to green is always well kept. Tee boxes are in great repair, the fairways are carpet and the bunkers are deep fluffy sand. There is some water in play on a few holes and if you don’t play with someone that has played there before then you better download a GPS app, cause there are holes that you have no clue how they play.
What makes this course tough? Water, many doglegs with blind shots, fairway bunkers everywhere, forced carries, rolling fairways and there are some extremely small and tight greens.
Speaking of the greens. They were punched on Tuesday 7/16/19 so they are freshly recovering. They lowered their rates to accommodate for that and for $20 you can get out during the week right now. I normally would never recommend a freshly punched course but for $20, the rest of the course makes it worth it. Any to be completely honest, they filled the holes and they rolled slow but not overly bumpy. I think by the end of next week they will fill in a little and by the end of July might be smooth. I have played here before the greens were punched and they roll fast and true.
It is more of a links style course with very little protection, but the greens are not cut into the fairway, but you can see the entire front 9 from just about every hole. The back is in the trees and a little more hidden.
I like to walk and there is fresh, cold water every 2-3 holes and we saw the cart lady 3 times in our 3 and ½ hour round.
As you can tell the pace of play (at least early in the am) was spectacular. There were 2 pairs in front of us and a 4 some behind us and nobody of any of those groups every waited. 3.5 means that your done before it turns triple digits which makes it some much nicer.
Great little course right off the highway and always well kept. Wait a week or 2 if you need smooth greens or catch a discount right now for the course experience and just deal with the greens as another form of challenge.
Course in great shape. Amazing value
Best course I’ve played below $50, and it was only $25.
