Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Enjoyable with cold morning
Good maintenances and late starting cold morning
But we are pretty good round of Golf.
Not a good twillight Saturday
Played this course a few times throughout the few years. I was a bit disappointed with the overall service and lack of marshaled service they had. Took me 4 hours and 36 minutes to play 17 holes.
Great traditional course
Great course with an old school desig - narrow fairways, but plenty rough. Small, well protected greens with precision approach shots needed. One of the few courses that could be walked easily. Whatever the type of grass, very suitable for winter golf conditions. Friendly staff. Good pace of play for a Friday morning. Overall a very good experience!
Great Post Thanksgiving round
Played with my Dad and Brother. Course played well. Staff was friendly (as always). Great to play when I’m back home with family.
I always enjoy playing Riverside
the course is challenging, easy to get a tee time, and a good course to walk. my only substantive complaint is the garbage that is sprinkled throughout the course. someone should spend a wee bit of time collecting trash twice a week. otherwise, i will continue to play the course.
This course is awesome
Great layout, great condition and a very challenging but rewarding course. Greens and tee boxes are in great shape. I only wish people would fill divots and respect car path only days!
Good round!
12:45 tee time and a single ahead of us, wow!
He was hitting two balls at times and we barely kept up. Rough was a tad long but other than that the course was in excellent condition.
Not bad
Gorgeous day..course was muddy and wet from the recent rain..but play was good.
Nice course. Could have benefited from better distance information.
Nice course with fun challenging holes. One downside was that as it was my first time playing this course I drove it through the fairway and into trouble multiple times because of short dog legs. Would have loved a sign indicating that the hole was set up to hit an iron off the tee and a 3 wood into the green. Solid conditions. Cart girl was out all day, while we did not partake she checked in with us about 8 times. Very considerate.
No Need for an Ark....Yet
Considering all the recent rain, this course was in very good shape. The biggest problem was not the fault of the crew. It was the players who didn't pay attention to how to put the flag back in the hole without damaging the turf around the cup and folks who were dragging their feet on the greens - scuffing up the grass. Missed two birdie putts just due to this lack of courtesy. Otherwise, this course drains very well. The greens were in fantastic shape, all things considered. The bunkers, understandably, were very wet or packed down. So, stay out of them. The tee boxes were in good shape. The rough is thick, so hit 'em straight.

I arrived at the course about 45 minutes before my tee time and checked in. Nice pro shop with a friendly staff. Hit balls on the range for about 15 minutes before smacking a few putts on the practice green. The range is good. Grass tees and a good amount of targets to fire at.
The starter was very nice. He let me know that I'd have 2-3 other players joining me, but allowed me to keep my cart as a single. The three I played with had some course knowledge, which was good, especially on the front 9, which has a handful of blind tee shots.
The course was in good shape for the beginning of September in Texas. My biggest complaint would be the cups. They look like they hadn't been changed in weeks (not days, weeks). I understand the cups aren't going to be perfect on a public course and didn't expect these to be. But most of the cups were so old that they weren't even a circle anymore. Did it ruin my round? No. But it was a little disappointing. I can honestly say I made two putts because they hadn't been changed, so it was certainly to my advantage and score – but I digress.
I read a review that the carts were old and slow. This wasn't a huge issue. I was speeding around the course like Kevin Harvick, but the carts were fine. This shouldn't be a reason to not play here.
Layout wise, it's good track. It's fairly open, but it has a good amount of water down the left side and across the front of the apron to the green, as well as hazards to keep you honest. The finishing hole is one of the best I've ever played. Water left and huge bunkers right that sit nearly 200 yards out. I was even through 17 and pushed my hybrid right off the tee on 18. I made it across the hazard, but I wasn't able to get up and down and made bogey for a 73. This, to me, was easily the hardest hole on the course and is a tremendous finishing hole. Can't imagine what this thing is like under pressure.
My final complaint (and it's very minor) came upon my exit. I went inside the clubhouse and the guy behind the counter had changed. I try to go into a course and buy a hat whenever I play somewhere new, so I intended to do the same here. He looked a little agitated that I pulled him away from the TV and kept watching after walking over to the counter as I walked around aimlessly looking for a logo hat. After about 3-4 minutes, I gave up, but thanked him just the same and wished him a good day. "Yup," was his response. Not exactly the warm feeling I was looking for after a really nice day of golf.
Oh well. Not a huge deal. Overall, this is a fun track and worth a play.
Cheers!

Decent course, need new carts
Things you need to know:
This course has the smallest greens ever and the largest tee boxes
The carts at riverside are awful and need to be worked on/replaced
People who play here do not like to fix ball marks or repair divots
The layout is good but strange
Anyways it's a decent little course
Great conditions
Front desk employee was very friendly, as well as the starter. Greens and fairways were in excellent condition. Golf carts were ragged and very slow, no GPS. Very hot and we did not see the cart girl until finally on #14. She was also friendly. I will definitely be back. Cart girl needs to come around more often when it is so hot.
