Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
About
Conveniently located adjacent to the DFW Airport, Bear Creek Golf Club serves up two Ted Robinson-designed, 18-hole masterpieces that are known for their stunning topography and outstanding greens. And with both golf courses playing around 6,700 yards from the tips, golfers can hit long irons and fairway woods off the tee to keep it in the fairway, which is mandatory for a good round on these tight courses. Bear Creek's West Course is demanding early, and is significantly more difficult on the front side. However, the back side opens up and allows some room for error, making this the track of choice for the high handicapper. Nos. 6 and 7 stand out on the demanding front. No. 6 requires a blind tee shot and an approach over water, and no. 7 might be the most difficult on the golf course: a 380-yard par 4 that plays into the wind and also involves water. The back side has the signature hole, the scenic 180-yard 17th, which plays along a lake.

Great course for a visitor
Flew into town for 2 days with time to play before flying out, the course is directly under the airport flight path. The East course was in good shape not great, sand on the greens but they rolled true. The staff was great and I didn't bring my clubs because it was a quick trip and they had nice complementary (rental) clubs with a QI35 driver and QI irons. They added a fourth to our group and the course was full but we still finished in under 4 hrs. I would recommend Bear Creek!
Nice public course in good shape for late winter. Well staffed & friendly. Our 4 some played right at 4 hours. This track used to take +5 hours almost always; they’ve done a nice job in speeding up play.
Not up to par
This course normally is one of the best per price value for a public course baring the plane traffic noise which can be overlooked since it's location. But on this day the greens where more bumpy than oatmeal. The beverage cart was seen twice and the second time was at hole 17 ! The experience got worst when our 4 some caught the foursome ahead of us on hole 12 which seemed to play each remaining holes at a pace of 25 mins per. Just not what I expected for this venue from prior visits. East course was played.
Course in good shape
Finally able to play a round of golf after the cold spell. The fairways are in excellent condition. The greens are in excellent condition as well. It wasn’t crowded at all so I’m not sure why a marshall would tell us to speed up play if the guys behind us weren’t even close to being right behind us
Great Day at Bear Creek
Played the West Course. Fairways were nice and painted, and well maintained. This is an anomaly normally in north Texas. Greens rolled well. Tough track. Nice to not have homes surrounding the course. Woods abound. Would definitely play again.
Bear Creek is the most well-managed public course I’ve played in DFW. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Greens were somewhat punched and a few soaked areas from sprinklers. 9/10.
Strategic course
Played the East course while I was in Ft. Worth for work. Staff was very friendly and let me know a few holes that driver wasn't the play off the tee. Conditions were good and pace of play was excellent. Really enjoyed my round with a couple of locals.
Pace of play is a joke
Currently sitting on the 5th hole waiting to tee off with 3 groups in the fairway and it’s already been 1.5 hours since I teed off. Marshal was even joking before teeing off he’d be impressed if I made it to the 6th hole before sundown. I teed off at 2:50pm.
Not worth the money
Better ways to throw away 90 bucks and it not take 5.5hrs
Stuck behind 3 groups all waiting. Also the bunkers are about the same density as the fairways but no need to rake because you don’t leave any trace of being in them
Bear Creek always offers a challenge.
The course was in great shape and offered a lot of risk reward opportunities. The greens were fast and true. Putting at these speeds were challenging to the average golfer used to playing on slower greens. Be prepared to pay close attention to the amount of break.
Lots of elevation changes
Played the West Course from the silver tees, which on many boxes were only a few yards in front of the blues (which are not back tees). Love the hilly setting here, with many elevated tees. Fairways are really nice. They had applied some fine-textured treatment to the greens, which made them unpredictable and extra fast, so maybe wait a couple of weeks if you want best conditions. Overall good challenge.
Greens were inconsistent and range was closed
I would never pay full price for this course. In my opinion, this is a $60 green fee during prime time. If you can get it for that or less, play it. Otherwise, there are better courses out there.
