Riverside Golf Club
About
Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.
Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.
The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Great course and staff
Fun course and enough water to make 6 balls disappear.
Good value course
Riverside is best known as the course that floods when the Trinity overflows its banks but it should be known as a good choice for convenience and value. Be aware that the wind will have much more effect here as it is mostly open. Surprisingly the are quite a few tough holes that can really punish an errant shot. The greens have some poanna as does every Bermuda course this year. It has been tough all over to get smooth surfaces. Riverside could use one of those facelifts by a great architect but in the meantime it is a good choice on a calm day.
Nice day
Playing with my future son in law and we had a great time. Course was fun, extremely windy day which adds to the challenge of the course. But still a fun day!
Shiver Me Timbers
The day was WINDY. Close to 20 mph. The layout of this course is very interesting, and very challenging in the wind. The only hole I just DO NOT care for is the par four, 15th. The drive must be long and perfectly placed, more than any other hole on the course. The smart duffer will hit an iron left of the bunker on the right and somewhere near the 150 yard marker. Anything that lands in the fairway will roll left and into the trees or creek. This day, there were a lot of tight lies in the fairways. Tee boxes were in good shape. The bunkers were well maintained, except the fairway bunkers on number four needed more sand - almost like hitting off a modified hard pan. The greens were in really good condition, rolling smooth and true - but a few had the "volcano effect" around the cup. Never saw a Marshall and usually don't on this course. The foursome in front of us refused to let us play through. They played by committee, and there were two holes empty in front of them. We usually play a round in 3.5 hours. This was almost a 5 hour round!
Go play Riverside! It's a fun and interesting course.
Fun course to play
Friendly staff and we played it in 3 hours but I did lose 3 balls .
No Carts
We showed up 15 minutes before our scheduled tee time. We paid, and waited for a cart for over 45 minutes. We finally went back, and got a refund. I kept telling them it was ridiculous for us to wait that long, they kept sending others out ahead of us that were walk ups. Once they gave us a refund, they just apologized. The problem is I drove almost an hour to the course. So their apologies didn’t make it better. I will never go back to this course again.
Hit n miss
Course is in good condition. I have experienced slow play (5hr rounds) but this round finished in 4.25 hours so cant complain. Course is flat so windy day made it difficult to enjoy but can't blame the course for that. No marshall to push play other than that good course.
Fun course
Played surprising well considering hurricane wind.
Perfect Day
A scant wind from the north was a nice change. Marshall paired me with a nice guy and a great 4 some. Price for holiday to too much. $45-47 is OK not 54.
course seems ok but poor pace of play
First the course seemed ok - decent - greens were a bit bumpy but the layout was fair and had some challenging holes - BUT we were plagued by poor pace of play issues all round - first we started of as a twosome - no one else had teee off for at least 15 minutes when we started.. first 3 holes seemed good - a single behind was us was playing fast so we let through - no problem.. then 2 holes later we caught up to the single and VERY SLOW foursome that backed everything up ( the single and our twosome decided to combine at that point)...we basically waited on each hole last 3-4 holes until we reached 9th hole.. was very long waits also..agonizing at times because the players were so bad.. after 9th the single with us had enough because it was taking too long - My twosome wanted to finish the round - we got caught behind a different threesome at 10 who were apparently originally in front of the slow foursome but somewhow they switched order.. This was even worse! - the threesome were so slow, poor players and so deliberate that we waited 15-20 minutes for next 3 holes to try and play - the very slow fourseome actually got 1-2 holes ahead of these guys! it was almost too much to bear - on a par 3 I believe 13 or 14 we decided to play forward and passsed the threesome - it finally seemed to open up - we quickly caught the slow foursome but to make matters worse on 17 somehow a DIFFERENT Threesome suddenly jumped in front of us and inexplicably didnt care that we were literally approaching the the 17th tee when they teed off! we called the clubhouse and complained but they didnt care..just made for a miserable round that could have been so much better - this is where a marshall can make such a difference.. I wont come back.
Windy after a rainstorm
Course in nice shape in general for March. Greens are amazing for March. How much time does it take to pull the weeds out of the center of the greens? Still very nice. There were 2 5-somes on the course. The first group was great and encouraged us to play through without incident and the second group was not. The round stalled at the 14th and took too long to finish. Really you permit 5 some?
Great layout... sub par conditions
Great staff. Course could be top course if they would hire greenskeeper or spend $ to bring turf up to par... excuse pun. They just never have made leap to great... so just average
