Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.

Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.

The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Fun, convenient course

The staff was welcoming and friendly. I felt like they appreciated the business. The starter managed the first tee efficiently and without being heavy handed. The course was in good shape. The course design has a nice mix of looks from the tee. Some holes are wide open for driver and others are a little tighter and require more thought. If you like to shape the ball from the tee this will be fun for you. The greens are small so knowing the right approach angle is helpful. We played in four hours flat. The carts have GPS and were accurate to the flags on the day we played. I'll definitely play this one again.

Very Good Overall

Best I have seen this course in years. Greens are a bit on the slow side due to recent aerification, but the fairways are excellent ! Greens are receptive and roll nice.

Great course in great shape...

I can't find anything negative to say about this course. If I were being picky, I would mention the airport nearby and the planes flying overhead. But even those didn't bother me once I got on the course and starting enjoying the round. Great deal on Golfnow.com that came with a sleeve of ProV-1's and I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking for true greens and manicured fairways...especially low handicappers that enjoy a test from the tips.

If you get a chance, play this course. You won't be disappointed.

Still a great course

I love playing this course because they greens stay in great shape. It was really slow this time because of singles and twosomes that wouldn't join and play together but other than that it was great.

Great early morning round

We played a 7:08am Sunday morning twosome and finished in 3 hours 15 min. Tee box to green the course was in great shape. Challenging layout that requires a lot of smart shots so you can't just grip it and rip it. Great bang for the buck.

Nice Layout

I was visiting the area and decided to play here. Where I am from there's not many golf courses, so lower supply means higher demand and so course fees are higher than this area. This is a course in great condition and the fact that it's $39 to play with a cart, it's a heck of a bargain. Tee boxes - great. Fairways -great. Greens are excellent. Now, you might think my standards are low, but I am a member of a club, and our course is very nice. Nicer than this course, And I play in Las Vegas all the time, Badlands, Rio Secco, Bali Hai, Royal Links, to name a few. Point is, for the money this course is great and challenging. Small greens so be accurate with your approaches. Greens roll true so that is nice. Carts are a little older, but they get you from point A to point B and they have GPS, so those with negative comments on the carts make me laugh. Hard to please some people! I understand everyone wants great value for their money. But some people are just flat out snobby and ridiculous. For Petes sake people, you should be happy you can afford to spend money on playing golf. Many people have a hard time making ends meet for life's necessities. So relax and just enjoy yourself!!! Go play here!!

Great for the money

Course is always in great shape, greens aren't super fast but usually roll true. Interesting layout with fun holes. Lots of water and sometimes can be super windy but a great value course in the area.

Not bad

2 complaints: Too many twosomes made for a slow round. Bunkers were in terrible shape, but it had rained the night before.

Other than that, really like the course.

Watch out

A good golf course. A true links style course.
Wind a major factor. Par 5s are really good with a great finishing (difficult) hole. Fun round.

Short course, but worth it!

The course is a little short in my opinion, but for the price it's well worth it. I was impressed with the condition of the course, especially with the little rain we've had.

Nice course for the price

Course was in good shape, greens showed old cups in several places but didn't affect the putts. Otherwise the course was in nice shape. Got around in 4 hours and it was busy. Will definitely play there again.

Decent course, unfriendly staff

The course was decent with some interesting holes. I'll probably go back if I'm in the area again. The only downside was the one man working the proshop and cash register was very unfriendly and pocketed the change I was due when I paid my golf now fees. Then at the turn he charged me and my buddy $6 for 2 sodas which is way out of line with most courses in the area. And of course he didn't smile or say thank you.

Don't go for the service, go for the golf course.
