Riverside Golf Club is appropriately named. The course sits in a floodplain along the Trinity River with water in play on seemingly every hole. This is a combination links-style/traditional layout that is surprisingly difficult for a municipal course. Great holes abound on the Roger Packard layout, which requires the rare combination of length and accuracy when playing from the tips.

Holes 4-6 offer one of the better stretches of golf, starting with a 462-yard par 4 that is cut in the landing area by pesky fairway bunkers, and features a long approach into an elevated green that is surrounded by water and slopes back-to-front. Club down on no. 4 because leaving it short still offers the chance for an up-and-down. No. 5 is a good par 3, especially from the middle tees where it generally plays as a short iron. Watch for the front pin placement, which can leave you with a long downhill putt if the tee shot is too long. Water looms to the right but it takes a bad shank to dunk it in the drink. No. 6 goes 543 yards, doglegging left along the Trinity with water fronting the green. The tee shot must be long and straight, and anything too far right leaves a precarious second shot around the bend.

The back side is the more fun of the two, taking you through good combinations of holes that offer excellent birdie opportunities if you’re on your game. You'll need those birds when you come down the home stretch.

Great golf course to use all your clubs

I love this golf course. It allows you to practice your golf management game. It is a great course with a variety of challenging but fun holes. Great views. It can be slow at times but overall it is the best course around for the $.

I play this course year round.

fast but fair

Good course for a muni, has some very challenging holes and the greens are fast and roll true. Cart girl very friendly, and staff was eager to help. We never saw a marshal and even though it was good weather and a Friday we did not really need a marshal once we rolled up on the group in front of us on the 3rd hole in a roll. Bunkers needed some work but for this time of the year the fairways were yellow but full and the rough was about 3 inches. If you do not watch out the front nine can eat alot of your balls with naked doglegs and blind tee shots but the back nine is very forgiving if not longer. ood course so go play using the golfnow discount.

Great Course

Great course, lots of water and hazards, one of the tougher public courses in area. Fast greens. Clubhouse could use some improvement and range butts into a couple holes. Little pricey, but other than that, great course. Will play much more

very nice course

First time playing Riverside. Wide open track, but good layout with lots of challenging holes. Conditions very good, and greens were firm and fast. Staff very welcoming. We are here from out of the area, and will definitely return. Too close to the highway to be really first-rate, but not a real problem.

average Golf course with bad golfer

There were no marshal on sight. There were drunk golfer in front of us. Each taking multiple tee shots , just simple bad etiquette golfer. But there were no marshal on our 5 plus hours round to speed these idiots up. Course is ok. Probably will never go again.

Among my least favorite courses in DFW

I rarely play Riverside, and every time I do, remember why. It's one of the slowest courses in the whole Metroplex, and has a disinterested staff that just couldn't care less. The course layout and conditions are about average, nothing special or interesting, but the freeway location attracts big crowds, including lots of hackers, and I've never seen a marshall on the course. Five hour rounds are normal here, often after waiting for a cart. There are just far too many better options..don't waste your time at Riverside.

Great for the money

This was the first golf course I have played in the Dallas area since moving down here, so this review comes with that caveat, but I have played at courses all over the country and this course definitely stands up.

Don't expect anything country club type level, but everything is excellent for a public course. The fairways/tee boxes/greens were all in great shape especially for the time of year. The practice facilities had everything you could want. The carts had GPS in them which was awesome. Beverage cart was stocked nicely. Great tent/grill at the turn for beer/food instead of having to run to the club house holding everyone up.

Overall for the money, you can't beat it. Highly recommended.

No electricity,limited food and beverage

Greens were excellent, fairways were healing well from being punched, rough was either deep or bare and hard as a rock. Had a great time.

Nice, well-maintained course! I'll be back

Greens were smooth with no dead patches. Fairways we uniformly nice. My wife and I were paired up with a single who was a very nice companion. Some holes were a little long for my wife's taste (400+ yds from ladies tees)...she also complained that she didn't get enough yardage advantage versus the white tees. Course meanders along the Trinity River with some nice views if your ball takes to you the edges of the fairways.

Riverside

Golf staff was courteous, but made no effort to pair up groups. F&B staff were not paying attention too much to what you said to them, was more interested in getting your money in the till and you out the door. No marshalls on the back 9 at all. Foursome would not let a twosome go through ahead of me. They waited on every shot from hole 7 to 18.

Bunkers have large rocks, so check your lie before playing a bunker shot.

Great course, but.....

We have played this course numerous times and the course is in great shape. We were on the 18th tee box when I heard my car alarm go off. When I got to the parking lot I realized someone shattered my driver side door window. Now it makes sense all the signs in the parking lot about locking your car etc...It's hard to believe someone would break in your car in broad daylight, but it did happen. The police department called me back after 2 hours of reporting the crime. Great course, but turned out to be the most expensive round I've played. Be careful playing this course!

Great Course for a change of pace

I have been playing riverside off and on for 17 years now. The currently the course is in the best shape it has probably ever been in. Given the water challenges North Texas has that is no small feat. The course generally will not penalize you severely for errant tee shots except near the river and you have to hook it. The Blue tees of 6 were moved up that day so it took the fun out of that hole, turns it from the #1 hdcp into just a short par 4. All in all, there are other courses around you will pay $20 more for and not find better conditions. The pace of play rating just reflects the Sunday crowd at this course, not the course itself.

Summer at Riverside

Rough off the fairway too thick, can't find your ball 5 feet off the fairway. Course is in great shape, no dead spots, greens rolling true , the sand traps need work, pretty rocky.
