Sharpstown Park Golf Course
About
Originally known as the Sharpstown Country Club back in the 1950s and '60s, and former host of the Houston Open, the course shut down amid financial turmoil until the city of Houston scooped it up in the late 1970s and hired Jay Riviere to renovate the layout.
With its generous fairways, the course is primarily known as a hacker-friendly track. Wayward tee shots are recoverable because of the relatively sparse tree-lined fairways. Even though there are some rather long par 4s, you'll be able to fire away with your driver on the straightaway holes.
The final stretch of golf is the best, with a few short par 4s and 3s as well as a birdie-able par 5.
Note that they refer to the net along No. 6 as the Zindler Net-it's a wire contraption installed to protect the home of local newsman Marvin Zindler, who lived near the course in the 1970s and '80s. Houstonites know Zindler for his infamous association with the famed La Grange chicken ranch.
Getting there : From Hwy 59 south take the Bell Aire Blvd. exit and turn right. When you come to Harbor Town Dr., turn right and the course is just down the road on the left side.

Pretty good
Greens were great. Course was overall good. I wish they had an actual driving range vs the 50 yard net but at least you can warm up well.
Good condition
Good condition.. Fast greens. Good pace of play. I used to play here in 80's and 90's, glad to come back 25 years later. Will make it one of my normal stops. I had a Thursday 9:00 AM tee time.
Cheap round
Can't complain, for $30 I was able to play a full round of golf with a cart. Course will require a fair amount of use of your long irons or fairway woods. I was there on a busy day and the round took 5 hours. Make sure when you go you are in no rush.
Course review
The course was fantastic, it looks simple but it is challenging.
Good course to play...
Just stay out of the trees, the course is flat, greens are very good, water comes into play only on a couple holes, no fairway bunkers on green side. Hitt'em straight!!
Wide open
Long and wide fairways. Fast greens. No cart girls, no grill. Awkward bag drop. Excellent prices.
Nice course, but...
I have played this course often and usually enjoy it. Two things bug me about this course: No marshals to drive around and monitor pace of play. We were a foursome and continually waiting behind a very slow threesome that could care less that we were constantly watching them tee off and they had at least one vacant hole ahead of them.
Second, the course drains poorly and needs some work to improve drainage. While other courses are off the cart path, they are still on. The greens are some of best in town. Too bad the fairways don't get some attention so can play off cart paths sooner.
Little wet but still fun.
For $25 on a Tuesday afternoon, you can’t beat it. The pace of play is an ongoing issue. If the Marshall could keep people playing on a good pace, a round wouldn’t take four and a half hours.
Good Value for the Money
Played the course for the first time as a single. Joined a group that were excellent playing partners. Course was wet, cart path only. Very walkable. Recommended for value and fun.
