Sharpstown Park Golf Course
About
Originally known as the Sharpstown Country Club back in the 1950s and '60s, and former host of the Houston Open, the course shut down amid financial turmoil until the city of Houston scooped it up in the late 1970s and hired Jay Riviere to renovate the layout.
With its generous fairways, the course is primarily known as a hacker-friendly track. Wayward tee shots are recoverable because of the relatively sparse tree-lined fairways. Even though there are some rather long par 4s, you'll be able to fire away with your driver on the straightaway holes.
The final stretch of golf is the best, with a few short par 4s and 3s as well as a birdie-able par 5.
Note that they refer to the net along No. 6 as the Zindler Net-it's a wire contraption installed to protect the home of local newsman Marvin Zindler, who lived near the course in the 1970s and '80s. Houstonites know Zindler for his infamous association with the famed La Grange chicken ranch.
Getting there : From Hwy 59 south take the Bell Aire Blvd. exit and turn right. When you come to Harbor Town Dr., turn right and the course is just down the road on the left side.

Par70 when par 72 seems very attainable.
Greens well maintained though a bit slow. Good value.
Soggytown!!
I play Sharpstown all the time. and it is a very reasonable nice public course. The staff is super nice and I like the layout since it is not too difficult.Problem is because it is so flat it does not drain. Cart path only that's why I walked. The greens are still good, its the fairways and surrounding areas that are so saturated that it can be frustrating. I guess its better than the hard pan in the throws of summer!! When it dries up its a great course!!
Pleasant Course
Given the weather we have had the course was in pretty decent shape. Some of the groups were playing a bit slow on the front nine but after we spoke with the ranger the pace picked up a bit. Challenging layout for most skill levels and the staff was very friendly.
Sloooow
I should know better than to book Sharpstown at noon on Saturday. A five (5) hour round is not acceptable.
Sharpstown
This was my first time playing this track, it was very nice and challenging. the pace of play was slow with a massive back-up right off the gate. the single behind us did not make it any better, as he was constantly hitting over us until we let him play through to then wait on him. the price was a little high for the quality but not too bad. there was no cart girl or grill so food and drinks were a little scant. will definitely come back and probably walk this course as that might make the pace of play a little more in tempo.
nice course
this is very nice golf course. had fun with grouped other 3 guys. just moving a bit slow as too many people playing.
I had a blast!
Once again on an NFL Sunday I was fortunate to be grouped with three other great guys plus one son. Always a pleasure as a veteran to meet up with other vets who are almost as good at golfing as they are at being good people. The round took 4 hours which is the norm for a crowded course with large groups. Teeing off just after 1 pm ensured a finish just before twilight. The greens were in great shape
Decent value for the money.
Fairways and rough are a little thin, but the greens are in great shape. Pace of play was ok considering the course was quite busy. Starters pair up everyone into foursomes which helps with pace of play. Overall a good value for the money.
Left after 9 holes
There was no Marshall to ensure adequate pace of play. Balls from other fairways were flying all over the place . The course is fairly easy and greens were in good condition but for me it wasn’t worth the time or money and I won’t be going back.
Sharpstown
Lived in Sharpstown for years. Even went to high school in the area but never played the course. I regret that I never played this course before. Not extremely difficult but just a nice course. Will definitely go back.
Prompt, convenient, proficient.
Staff is friendly, courteous, professional. Greens are maintained well. I enjoyed my game. Thank you.
Still HOT in October

It would have been helpful to know the greens had been aerated recently
