Sharpstown Park Golf Course
About
Originally known as the Sharpstown Country Club back in the 1950s and '60s, and former host of the Houston Open, the course shut down amid financial turmoil until the city of Houston scooped it up in the late 1970s and hired Jay Riviere to renovate the layout.
With its generous fairways, the course is primarily known as a hacker-friendly track. Wayward tee shots are recoverable because of the relatively sparse tree-lined fairways. Even though there are some rather long par 4s, you'll be able to fire away with your driver on the straightaway holes.
The final stretch of golf is the best, with a few short par 4s and 3s as well as a birdie-able par 5.
Note that they refer to the net along No. 6 as the Zindler Net-it's a wire contraption installed to protect the home of local newsman Marvin Zindler, who lived near the course in the 1970s and '80s. Houstonites know Zindler for his infamous association with the famed La Grange chicken ranch.
Getting there : From Hwy 59 south take the Bell Aire Blvd. exit and turn right. When you come to Harbor Town Dr., turn right and the course is just down the road on the left side.

Hot Deal!
The pace of play was perfect. Solid course for your money. I’ve played there a few times, and will be going back.
Easy fun city gc
Great gc for those new to golf. Has enough to challenge most. Would definitely play again.
Slow Day on the Course
This course is one of the old Houston Municipal courses that any golfer living in the Houston Metro should play once. The low price before twilight makes the lack of a snack bar or on course cart exceptable. Playing from the tips is ok even for the average golfer and the rough is pretty sparse so even a hacker like me could play a round with only one ball. The water is never in play which makes for a very easy day and you do have many club selection issues unless you get into trouble off the tee. The pace of play is representative of the very low rate. A four and a half hour round is not uncommon and don’t look for a marshal to keep things moving they are usually in the club house out of the heat (can’t blame them) Play this course because it old cheap and muni landmark.
Model Muni
I used to play Sharpstown all the time. They have come a looong way. Remodeled greens a few years ago, and they are holding up nicely.
Pace of play was good. Sometimes it can be pretty bad.
All in all a nice track with nice people running the festivities. And mostly laid back players. (Some clowns occasionally, but not today)
Great Golf Course
City owned GC is great for beginners or a quick round. You wouldn't find too many hazards to obstruct you, but some holes will quickly add strokes if you don't manage the hole. Long par 3s too.
Sanded the greens
They just sanded the greens. Wast worth the $28. Stay away for a week or so. I wish it was noted on GolfNow.
Great Experience
Course was nice and open. Enjoyed the Par 5's. Didn't get to finish because it was backed up on the back 9. I will play again.
Terrible Marshall and play speed
Booked 3:44pm Fri, 30 Mar. Arrived at 3:10pm. only one cart was available and the second cart was avialable after 15 minutes waiting. appoach no 1 tee box at 3:40pm. the starter ask me to show the check-in ticket.
ask my name and told him. one lady was in at 3:44pm and I told him she was in my tee-time. It was heavuly crowded of people He neglect and let her play herself as she wanted to do so. I was place one more team behind without reason. and at my tee-time I was asked to pair one more guy. I declined as I wanted to play my family only. it took almost 3 hours from no1 to no,8. no control of speed.
the only merit of this golf course is the location.
Wet Spring Round
Course was wet due to the previous rounds but in very good condition! Once dry this course is going to be the best course to play for your dollar!
