About
John Bredemus stopped off here in the 1920s to open up Kerrville’s first golf course. Originally private when it opened in 1923, the course was acquired by the city in the 1930s and the course remained public ever since.
Situated on gently rolling terrain, the course offers scenic views of the surrounding Texas hill country. R.D. Kizer and Joe Finger have had their hands in molding the layout, which features somewhat generous fairways and an interesting combination of mounded greens.
Bredemus designed the front nine, which is highlighted by the classic 592-yard par 5. This is a mean hole, with water cutting into the fairway twice and an elevated green that requires a perfect approach. The hole has character, with water along the right and an ominous-looking cliff framing the view. Another notable hole on the front is the dogleg-left No. 7, with trees dominating the left side.
The signature hole is No. 17, a 535-yard par 5. Water comes into play on the second shot and then again on the approach to the green, which is surrounded by water on three sides. A waterfall to the left of the green adds a pleasing aesthetic.
The back nine, which opened in 1977, is more forgiving than the front. The best hole is the tough, par 5 No. 17. If you survive the tee shot, water comes into play on both the second and third shots. The last shot is particularly pleasing because of the waterfall on the left side of the green.

The course is in great condition played 18 holes in just over 3 hours . Enjoyed this round !
Nice course
It was my first time playing here and it was a great course. Staff was friendly and other players helped with the location of the first hole. Nice layout and nice greens. Definitely recommend if you’ve never played here.
17 is a championship hole
Love the course and always fun. Considering the drought, it is in great condition. The 17th is as much a championship hole as anywhere in the world, and I’ve been around. 😂
Golf during a three year drought
Fun and challenging layout. We've been in a severe drought, but the course has been managed well. Why I’ve never played this course is beyond me. I liked it a lot and I’m certainly going back. Very friendly and helpful staff. Not much to eat there, but the beverages are plentiful. 😁
Hot!
With no rain in months and very high heat (100) was a bit surprised that the course was even playable. The greens took a beating and no way to be able to judge one's putting. Otherwise I did enjoy being on the course and enjoying my round. Would do it again.
Enjoyable Course
Enjoyable course, staff is fantastic, carts good, love all the water stations available, lots of deer to enjoy/admire. Only negative is the greens are rough. I know the freeze hurt but know you will see some rough conditions.

Very slow and crumbly.
Really fun course
Very fun course to play - nice layout - neat club house, plenty of water on the course - smooth pace of play. Nice challenging holes. Greens a bit bumpy however not to the point of taking away the fun playing the course. Carts are clean - flow of play was good - nice driving range. Recommend this course in Kerrville.

Great layout. greens were very slow.
Love this course. But with much needed rain recently the greens were very slow and the rough around the greens was very thick.
