Scott Schreiner Municipal Golf Club

About
John Bredemus stopped off here in the 1920s to open up Kerrville’s first golf course. Originally private when it opened in 1923, the course was acquired by the city in the 1930s and the course remained public ever since.
Situated on gently rolling terrain, the course offers scenic views of the surrounding Texas hill country. R.D. Kizer and Joe Finger have had their hands in molding the layout, which features somewhat generous fairways and an interesting combination of mounded greens.
Bredemus designed the front nine, which is highlighted by the classic 592-yard par 5. This is a mean hole, with water cutting into the fairway twice and an elevated green that requires a perfect approach. The hole has character, with water along the right and an ominous-looking cliff framing the view. Another notable hole on the front is the dogleg-left No. 7, with trees dominating the left side.
The signature hole is No. 17, a 535-yard par 5. Water comes into play on the second shot and then again on the approach to the green, which is surrounded by water on three sides. A waterfall to the left of the green adds a pleasing aesthetic.
The back nine, which opened in 1977, is more forgiving than the front. The best hole is the tough, par 5 No. 17. If you survive the tee shot, water comes into play on both the second and third shots. The last shot is particularly pleasing because of the waterfall on the left side of the green.
Getting there : From I-10 west, take Hwy. 16 south and turn left on Country Club Dr.

TERRIBLE GREENS
The course was in great shape other than the dried out and cracked greens. The greens looked like a dry river bed. Big cracks and had recently been airieated. Was not warned by staff ahead of playing.
Ask about the greens
I've played thousands of rounds of golf and this may be the worst green conditions I have ever seen.
Had a great time on this course
Guy at the club house was super friendly and helpful since this is our first time out there to play. The tee box’s were in good shape and the fairways were is really great conditions, but the greens were in sad shape. I am sure the course super is taking care of the conditions, but they were still playable with some bumpy holes.
Overall, I really like this course and will be returning to play this again.
Course in good shape except front nine greens
The greens on the front nine are terrible mostly dead and very bumpy. Some dead spot on greens on back nine but not nearly as bad. The fairways and tee boxes are great.
Beautiful course
Absolutely beautiful course, well manicured, affordable prices and accommodating!!
Perfect condition
Course is in the best shape it's been in in a couple years with all the rain we've been getting. Can't wait until they renovate all the greens & fairways this winter
Good day
We had a great day playing the coarse! We will be back to play it again!
Unique variation of holes
In good shape. Helps to know the course. I played with a local who helped with hole description and advice.
Great Municipal Course
My wife and I enjoyed playing this course. It has friendly staff and the course lay out was good. Overall, great value and centrally located in Kerville. I recommend this course but make a tee time as far in advance as you can as it gets lots of play.
Good day in Kerrville
Go up to the course this morning the staff is incredibly friendly. The day was beautiful the greens are a little slow fairways are fast the rough is unforgiving and number 17 is one of the hardest holes ever played anywhere the browns keeping could use a little bit of green work on the greens they're really slow patches of dead grass but overall the course is in pretty decent shape and I had a great day shot at 88
Cart attendants
Cart gentleman was very rude! Went to see about getting another cart because the charge station on our cart didn't work. Was greeted with a no you can't do that you can't get a different cart!! Oh don't go there unless you can play a round with 3 players unless you can be done in 21/2 hours. You'll get looked at if your playing slow or asked if you could pick up the pace!! Other then that the course is great
