About
John Bredemus stopped off here in the 1920s to open up Kerrville’s first golf course. Originally private when it opened in 1923, the course was acquired by the city in the 1930s and the course remained public ever since.
Situated on gently rolling terrain, the course offers scenic views of the surrounding Texas hill country. R.D. Kizer and Joe Finger have had their hands in molding the layout, which features somewhat generous fairways and an interesting combination of mounded greens.
Bredemus designed the front nine, which is highlighted by the classic 592-yard par 5. This is a mean hole, with water cutting into the fairway twice and an elevated green that requires a perfect approach. The hole has character, with water along the right and an ominous-looking cliff framing the view. Another notable hole on the front is the dogleg-left No. 7, with trees dominating the left side.
The signature hole is No. 17, a 535-yard par 5. Water comes into play on the second shot and then again on the approach to the green, which is surrounded by water on three sides. A waterfall to the left of the green adds a pleasing aesthetic.
The back nine, which opened in 1977, is more forgiving than the front. The best hole is the tough, par 5 No. 17. If you survive the tee shot, water comes into play on both the second and third shots. The last shot is particularly pleasing because of the waterfall on the left side of the green.

Ladies better than Men
I have always enjoyed playing with the Ladies vs Men.
Men always want to bet on every shot!
Thus Slowing the game down for Everyone Behind.
You paid to play, You Don’t Own the Course!
Ladies like to play the game.
Remember guys, if you play with the Ladies, they really Don’t Want Your Golf Advice!
Give it Only When They ask for it, then be direct and don’t keep giving on everything they might mess up on!
Finally green fairways
Course has greened up nicely. A few greens still have some bad spots but still very playable.
Schriners golf
Good course as City courses go. Well taken care of and has some challenging holes for the best players. Some days there are many walking and has plenty of deer. Come prepared for anything and everything.

Good Course
I have played this course before, 3 months in 2021 and now 2 months this year 2022, averaging 3-4 times per week and Never play Fri, Sat, Sunday. Too busy.
I am a all year RVer that plays courses in and around Dallas Fort Worth Kerrville, Lajitas in Teralingua,Tx and al couses around Tucson Az. So my rating is in comparison with the many other courses.
Fun time
The course was different from our usual round at our home course. We enjoyed it and our score.
Great day for golf, in spite of the wind.
Golf
Course was in good condition. Most greens were good. Had to 4somes that did not know course etiquette. So the round took longer but it was a nice day.
Great value course
Course layout is really great. 2 greens are kind of rough but the rest are good. Pretty easy course. For the value you cannot beat it. I play here a few times a month.
Good round
Recent rain has definitely helped ! Greens were improving and fairways were turning green. Best condition overall in many months.
