Scott Schreiner Municipal Golf Club

About
John Bredemus stopped off here in the 1920s to open up Kerrville’s first golf course. Originally private when it opened in 1923, the course was acquired by the city in the 1930s and the course remained public ever since.
Situated on gently rolling terrain, the course offers scenic views of the surrounding Texas hill country. R.D. Kizer and Joe Finger have had their hands in molding the layout, which features somewhat generous fairways and an interesting combination of mounded greens.
Bredemus designed the front nine, which is highlighted by the classic 592-yard par 5. This is a mean hole, with water cutting into the fairway twice and an elevated green that requires a perfect approach. The hole has character, with water along the right and an ominous-looking cliff framing the view. Another notable hole on the front is the dogleg-left No. 7, with trees dominating the left side.
The signature hole is No. 17, a 535-yard par 5. Water comes into play on the second shot and then again on the approach to the green, which is surrounded by water on three sides. A waterfall to the left of the green adds a pleasing aesthetic.
The back nine, which opened in 1977, is more forgiving than the front. The best hole is the tough, par 5 No. 17. If you survive the tee shot, water comes into play on both the second and third shots. The last shot is particularly pleasing because of the waterfall on the left side of the green.
Getting there : From I-10 west, take Hwy. 16 south and turn left on Country Club Dr.

Outstanding Hill Country Golf Course
First time playing this course and it won't be the last. Excellent course that has ample challenging holes with elevations, sand and water. For August, in Texas, the course was in impressive condition. Greens rolled very nicely and facilities are very good. Staff were Texas friendly and went out of the way to make us feel welcome. We enjoyed the golf, course and staff so much we agreed we wanted to return for another round in the very near future. Nice practice areas as well. Highly recommend.
Invite
Took some friends to play. They enjoyed the course as much as I do.
Awesome Municipal Course
One of the best deals around. Course is in great shape, especially considering the drought we are in.
Fun Course
4 of us had a nice time on the course. Found it to be in good shape. Nice advantage for the ladies!
Good conditions
For being in a bad drought, the course is in good condition. There’s some bare spots here and there and some patches on some greens, but overall I was very pleased with the conditions.
First time player at course
Course was dry. Greens bumpy and two older gentlemen in front were very slow play with no intention to let us play thru. They would hunt for balls and driving golf cart to the greens.
Nice course
In pretty good shape considering the drought we are in. Got stuck behind a slow foursome but it wasn’t horrible. Will play here again.
Greens need work.
The fairways are nice but there are many bare spots on the greens and the greens are very slow.
Greens are in really bad shape right now. Fairways are pretty dry and hard as well. Course is usually in excellent condition but the lack of rain is really hurting it right now I guess
Greens
Course is fun and decent until you get on the greens. Putting more than three feet is very difficult. Hitting the ball hard enough to get to the hole and watching it hop across the green is brutal. Could use rain a couple of hours a day for about a month. Not sure what else they can do.
1st impression
Not a difficult course except for a few unique greens. Greens were on the slow side but in good shape. I will be playing this course again.
Start at hole 10?
Greens were a little slow that day but it makes it for a challenging game always a good time.. not sure what’s going on but they had us start at hole 10 instead of 1. I like it! I’ll play that way from now on! If it’s allowed.
