About
This southernmost course in Texas, despite its name, is actually situated on the mainland in Port Isabel. Architects Chris Cole and Stephen Caplinger carved an outstanding layout out of the wild native Gulf coast vegetation, with several holes bordering the Laguna Madre. The club has hosted the Texas Senior Open and the South Texas PGA Southern Championship since its opening in 1997.
The design features wide fairways bordered by native yucca, mesquite, and cactus, and the windy conditions often make it challenging to keep it in the fairway. Errant shots will be lost for sure. Others that fail to find the fairway will bury in waste areas and deep rough.
For the most part, the longer holes seem to play more downwind, while the shorter ones play into the wind. The large greens are of championship quality. Three of them are multi-tiered.
No. 5 is the feature hole, a picturesque, 335-yard, par 4 with a tee shot that must carry the Laguna Madre into a sharp dogleg-right fairway. On the back, No. 11 is unique because of the giant mesquite tree that dominates the middle of the fairway. Hole 12 can be interesting: it's a short par 3 that is completely surrounded by water.
The facility has plans for slow expansion based on how quickly the residential lots are developed. A second 18-hole course is under construction, with three holes complete. Designed by Chris Cole and Jeff Potts, this layout will feature only par 3 and par 4 holes and play to 5,400 yards.
Getting there : The club is on Hwy 100 before you cross over the causeway onto the island of South Padre. Turn right on FM 520 and continue for 2.5 miles to the course.

Had a great time playing vacation golf with my wife and sons. Course was in pretty good shape considering the time of year. There was a notice when I reserved that the rates were reduced as the course is under repair.
White tees
The white tees were moved back for some stupid reason and are now blue lite. Slows pace of play for no good reason. White tees are now 6-700 yards above card marking. Decreases enjoyment.
Tees
For some reason they moved the white tees back to what was gray( blue lite) and eliminated the gray. Now do not have tees for average golfers
Starter
I do not think it is appropriate to have the starter displaying his political views. VERY BAD IMAGE
Great course
Very friendly staff and course was well maintained had a great time with friends playing this great course.
Nice course
Nice course don’t like the $20 rider fee for my wife but nevertheless it’s a nice course.
Great course
Awesome all the way around. Just $70 is pricey so only go when the wife wants to go other then that I do choose other course who are more affordable
Tough in wet conditions
Overall, a good track..,greens fast ,but receptive.. bunker sand is spotty..
Views
A couple of the holes had fantastic Gulf of Mexico views. Much better than expected. Course was in great shape. Fairly challenging.
Guys outing
Yardage markers/cart distance screen would be helpful….minor comment, cuz we still had fun🏌🏿♂️😇
Excellent course
I really enjoyed the course. Everything was very well maintained. However, the only thing I would recommend would be having signs to easily find holes that are a little hidden. I had trouble finding 2 or 3 holes, but it wasn’t a big deal. Overall, great experience.
Course layout
Very nice challenging course. Couple holes a little rough but overall we like it . Nice practice facilities and friendly staff.
Fabulous round of Golf!
The course has had some damage near the greens which they are working hard to correct. Overall very nice course with fabulous views of South Padre Island.

I just want to say that this was one of my favourite experiences in the Valley and I will definitely be back! Justin was the most professional and accommodating Pro Shop employee I have encountered in a long time. He went above and beyond to make sure our group was taken care of with all our requests. From getting our tee times settled and our clubs rented, Justin had a positive attitude and was happy to be there to help. We even had an issue with one of our carts while on the course, and Justin promptly had it replaced and we were on our way again! The course is just amazing and has come a long way from last year. The layout is challenging yet fun to play and keeps you looking forward to the next hole. This is definitely a place you need to come play, we will definitely be back and we look forward to the hospitality Justin showed us.
