About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Challenging yet fun
Bay Forest has been a fun course to play. Have been here 3 to 4 times now. Only suggestion would be for the marshalls to reiterate to those teeing off if they are slow to play to be mindful and considerate and let smaller groups or faster playing groups play through. This seems to be a recurring situation at most courses these days as younger players have not been taught to play ready golf or be considerate of others playing behind them.

Fast greens
Even after the freeze over weekend course was still very playable. Greens maybe a tad fast, one putt uphill almost came back to us when short of hole. Like the layout.

Fun course greens are always good for a public course I'd put them up there with some of the private courses in the area.

Wet but great
This course was in good shape after two days of rain. Definitely I am coming back ...The greens are the best in Houston

Worth the play
Course was wet because of the recent rain and it was cart path only, but play was still good. Driving range was closed. Rough off the fairway and around the green was fine.

Overgrown Rough Everywhere
The course has a slow pace of play due to most players searching endlessly for lost balls due to the very high rough on the edge of the fairways and around the greens. Good luck on finding your ball if you miss a fairway or green.

Bay Forest 1
Course was good, pace of play was not good. No cart girl on A Saturday. Range wasn’t open but we did have some hard rain the night before.

Overgrown Rough Everywhere
A golf game on a public course is meant to be enjoyed. However, it took me over 1 1/2 hours to get off as a single and the clubhouse said I must stop playing 30 minutes before dark. I have never been told that at any course I have played on. The overgrown, high rough covered the entire course, including the practice green, making it difficult to play and find your ball. The rough around the practice green was so high you could not practice hitting a chip or pitch shot. I lost several golf balls right next to the fairway during the round because the rough was ankle deep and above the golf ball. It took extra long to play the round because everyone was having problems finding their balls in the deep rough that was all along the fairway and around all the greens. I used to enjoy playing the course but will not be back to play it until they make the rough reasonable and shorter so it is fair and more enjoyable to play. The course should also abandon their rule to stop play 30 minutes before dark if they plan on charging a full price for a round of golf.
